Freecoaster help?

Stolen Easy Street freecoaster...Whenever I try to pedal with any kind of force, it disengages, and the cranks slide forward....Any ideas? It's really, really annoying.... The hub was apparently just serviced (I only just got the wheels), so I'm not really sure what's causing it..Too much grease?

I had this problem once, but I can't remember exactly what it was. I just took it apart again, cleaned up everything and refitted with enough, but not excessive grease and I think that sorted it

Better have a good selection of cone spanners!

My friend had the same hub on his stolen siner complete, and had the same problem, i guess its just a shitty system, get some khe freecoasters which has been proven countless time to be the best!

I'm not really interested in buying another freecoaster...The only reason I have it, is that it was already apart of the wheel. If I have to buy a new hub, I'm going back to the normal hubs...But I would rather avoid spending another ~$150 + service for another hub, if it's possible to fix this one..especially seeing as I literally just got the bike built like 3 days ago.

The Stolen hubs are made by KHE.
These hubs have internal spacers that give a specific amount of "slack" before the clutch engages.

Sounds to me like whoever serviced the hub either forgot to put the spacers back in, or forgot/broke the stop pin on the non drive side of the hub (or "spacer stop"). Simple fix.

Ok, I just watched the video. I commented first after reading the above comment. From the sound it's making, it seems that the clutch is slipping. The Clutch has splines on it. Sounds like it's slipping and grinding. More than likely whoever serviced it probably used the wrong type (and too much) of grease. Open it up, clean off the top of the clutch, and the surface it engages to on the inside of the hub body. This should clear up your problem.

Thanks! Funny, because I did hear a small grinding sound too, so this is probably the problem.

First thought when I saw the vid was the clutch or hub body was shot.

But the fact that it was just serviced would make you think if it was, that the shop would have realised it was shot and would have said something/fixed it. Not just thrown in back together.
and apparently before service, it was running 100%.
Ill just open it up tomorrow and wipe some if the grease away and see if that does anything..

So you took it to the shop for a rebuild or the kid that sold it to you told you this ?

 The other dude.

Not trying to piss people off, but most bike shops know very little about bikes.
Especially when it comes to things like internal hub clutches, hub brakes, hub gears, or other items considered "rare" to the bike community.

Ew not good. Well when you pull it apart . If you have not seen this vid it may help since a lot of the coasters are different inside depending on year and model

Thanks for the vid. Very helpful. I've never opened up a freecoaster before so it'll be a learning experience...

So..I just picked it up from the shop, because whatever I seemed to do, didn't help. And whatever they did to the hub, didn't work...it's even worse -.-

Most shops don't actually know how to service these things. If all else fails, just contact the manufacturer.

I wouldn't be able to get warranty because I'm not the first owner..So just email them asking what to do and if they've heard of this problem before?

Exactly, and chances are good that you can purchase the correct replacement part directly from them.
