Les Gets - Mt Chery Black

On the Mt Chery side of Les Gets they have re built the old black trail. Almost a complete re build with some awesome new sections. Here is our first run down, slightly wet and soft still, but great fun.

I can see all of your points but the bottom line is that Mt Chery needs a track like this to make it viable for the lift to stay open, each time a pass scans through the lift a certain amount from that PDS pass is allocated to Mt Chery and its development. So if there is only steep , savage singles then it will close all together.

The Mt Chery lift closing would indeed make me far more unhappy than just Dans le Gas getting flattened, so perhaps I should thank you. I am aware my comments have been "spiky" to say the least, basically because I don't know what it was about that track I loved so much. Wasn't the steepest, or the roughest, nor did it have the biggest jumps, but there was just something about the way it all tied together that never failed to put a huge smile on my face. Perhaps something to do with the fact it was pretty much the first real DH track I ever rode, many years ago on my dear old DMR Trailstar. (Also R.I.P. Frown ) I believe there is a green run down the mountain if you turn right out of the lift station rather than left, but I suppose you can't put jumps on green runs. Perhaps I'll just have to suck it up, it just makes me sad watching all the gnar get replaced by bloody smooth berms, just cos DH is currently "in fashion". I understand the money side of things tho, secretly I can't wait for DH to slip under the radar again, but I know my wages will possibly drop when it does so. Can't win really Frown

What are you muppets talking about? It looks mint! That track hasn't had any work done on it in years, it's about time they did. Most of it is the same/similar anyways.

Keyboard riders chatting sh*t as per usual

I agree with gabriel-mission9, bloody shame they had to ruin what was a cracking 'natural' feeling track, plenty of the bermed trails about why destroy one of the classics? If necessary build another trail, more tracks bring riders, invest to cater for all tastes.

Frown That used to be one of my favorite tracks. Pretty much started my love affair with DH. R.I.P. Dans le Gas. Hello noob superhighway. Please don't screw up any of the other tracks down that side of the mountain.

always amuses me when someone negs, but doesn't comment anywhere to actually say why. Kinda suggests you know I'm right, you just don't like the fact that I'm right.....

Looks like they have taken out the long fast shoot near the end . Is the track you are on about slayer?
  • + 1
Doesn't Slayer start from the top? Or have I got the names mixed up? I'm crap with names, but think Slayer is the one that starts about a hundred meters from the normal start of Dans le Gas. Sick track whatever its called. Think the one halfway down is Gnome Trail. Pretty fun too but Slayer is the real steep one. Theres another sneaky one up top too but its not as steep.

Looks awesome! Glad they took out that chute which was super sketchy!

Glad they took out a fun bit. Erm. Why exactly do you ride dh?
  • + 1
Just because I thought the chute was sketchy (which it was because it had a mega rut in the middle and the breaking bumps were about 5 foot high!) you are questioning why I ride downhill? Am I not allowed an opinion? I ride DH because I love the adrenaline it gives me and the thrill and getting stoked and having fun with my buddies! Just because I didn't like 1 particular part of a track that you apparently loved doesn't mean you have to question why I do the sport! you probably don't like parts of tracks that I ride! we ride tracks that we personally enjoy and find fun! anyway track looks sick and if you don't like it then stay off it! end of!

You are indeed allowed an opinion. As am I. My opinion is that tracks should have more ruts and bumps, roots and rocks etc. In my opinion that is what dh is all about. If someone was to want dh tracks made smoother and have all the technical challenges removed, I would indeed start to wonder what drew them to dh in the first place rather than BMX racing or road riding or something that already has nice smooth flowing tracks that don't require big suspension, fat tyres or stupidly powerful brakes.

Now, you obviously are a downhill rider, or at least have ridden what used to be one of my favorite tracks, and yet despite the fact that it wasn't particularly gnarly in the first place, you appear to be happy that they have removed one of the mildly gnarly sections. This confuses me, but I am always willing to learn, so I simply ask, "what is it that draws you to dh, compared to say BMX race, where all the tracks already look pretty much like this one now does?

Wtf that track looks Shit now
  • + 3
Really? It's not. SO much fun, smooth, flows and progressive. If you looking for more technical ride the secret trails half way down to the right, careful mind there super steep.

surely tutti frutti was enough? Its only like 20 mins away and should cater for all your smooth flowy challenge-free riding needs.

OK, No worries, Its just a vid to show a new trail.

Sorry, I don't mean to be a dick about it, but Rue Libre is only over the valley. Then you have the ENTIRE Nauchets lift side, Tutti Frutti on SuperMorzine, Most of the tracks at Le Lindrets. Do we really need more flow tracks? They don't push your skills, they get old quickly, they get brake bumps galore after 3 days, there is no feeling of speed cos theres no trees trying to decapitate you, and from another angle (and perhaps worst of all in the long run) they cause HUGE amounts of erosion, especially if all the trees get dug up. In short, ruining it for everyone...

As a rider of DH, my favourite tracks by far are the super steep technical ones. However, I'm glad to see changes like this happening, because if I wanted to ride something technical, I would have ridden one of the thousands of secret tracks which are way better. Also, from a trail builders point of view, big flowy fun tracks like this draw people in, and more people means more money.
