Only just watched this! You made some whacky noises Razz f*cking gnarly bro! Looked like you were travelling at quite a rate of knots when shit went down!
Plus I though you guys from up the top of the country were tough?! Poor show about not riding it out Razz lol

Ha cheers for that... Yeah, the noises were not cool no lol as for riding it out, that's actually what I thought was going to happen when I got bounced offline, but a rock and pedal strike (I think) had other ideas. The bit I landed in off the track is fairly shallow, just filled with branches and smaller rocks so I thought id just roll to a stop and get off but I was off the bike quicker than you can say Commencal Meta. Didn't really know what happened until I watched it back. I was most annoyed at having to go home again so early, id only been out about an hour!

It really sucks crashing that soon into a session. Last big one I had was last summer, messed a jump up and landed all off line, as I hit the floor there was a massive crack noise and I had pain in my leg... Instantly thought I'd snapped as I was all tangled up in the frame...nope, was my bars pushing on leg and the cracking noise was the stem being forced round the steerer tube! Think I got lucky, just a bruise and a dent in my leg for a few hours.

Pedal strikes are nasty, the bike slows for that split second, and send your weight forwards. Was it that big rock at the end the one that took a pedal pounding?

Man, that's a fair ding to slip the stem around! Yeah, lucky by the sounds of it. The rock I mention at the end I think was the one I dug up, about the size of a house brick. I must have swung the crank to 6oclock on the camber yo move my weight over to correct my line and it connected. Full credit to the Saint pedals, they're tough buggers.

Haha; no pins ripped out the pedal? Pretty damn tough then!

No, barely a scratch on them! They were a bargain too when I got them so they've already paid for themselves lol

Shit man. That is exactly what i did in exactly the same place on exactly the same tree last year! That stump you point out near the end is what my foot impacted on! Wasn't good. Ive often though about taking the guilty tree out coz its so easy to clip your bars on due to it being right on the turn . Gets worse in summer when everything is overgrown too. On the plus side it makes you more aware of it in future! Glad you and your steed survived though. Could be so much worse.

@murfio Ha! Really? It must've been missing you ha! :-/ Watching it back I was so tempted to nip back and snap the damn sapling off, but I thought better of it lol ..serves me right for switching to 780mm bars I guess. And again, the go pro completely neutralises the trail, its mad. Its alot twistier and rocky than id thought it was, nice and challenging clearly. The section 10 seconds before has a REALLY steep RH side, you've got to keep tucking to the left I found- I was too far left on that tree apparently!

Funny you should say that because i was running 780mm bars at the time of my incident. Now on 760mm and it hasn't been a problem since! Haha.
It is a really fun track. The faster you ride it the more challenging it gets. Only negative thing i find about it is the couple of fairly long flat sections on the lower half. But the rest of it makes up for those. The short and loose rocky section about midway down the lower half is always fun to blast through.
Had it even rained up there? Looks dry as a bone on your video. Goes to show how much difference a few miles can make to the weather.

@murfio it had rained, but even by the time I set off up the hill at about 10am, it was drying out. The conditions and grip were actually really decent- it was well windy at the top though, hard to keep a line on the moor up top.

That looks painful mate. Could have been plenty worse with all those rocks!!

It was/is lol. Just banged my hip/side, chest and arm. Haven't winded myself in ages so it took a second or two to realise that's all it was. Some nice bruises going on right now. It was a tree on the LH that took me offline and into the rough-rock caught the pedal and ejected me had no idea what had happened until I viewed it back- didn't feel id hit anything. The go pro doesn't show the gradient but where I landed is relatively flat compared to a few seconds earlier. Just landed short of a big stump which would have been hospital imo.. had only been on the bike about 90 minutes at this point! Annoying but I'm glad I'm not too badly dinged lol

Blimey! That sounds like it hurt, but glad to hear you are ok dude. Hope the bruises heal quick and you get out again soon.

Cheers man. The winding was a bigger for sure. Hadn't missed that one at all! Bit stiff and sore but will be out and charging soon!
