@BikeParkPro - Platte is everything it has always been - a rocky unrefined and super technical wonderland. I was racing there from 1998-2001 and free riding there till 2004 and there is nothing different except a lack of will from riders to make the pilgrimage. They were short staffed for clean up and some trails needed some work but that has always been Platte. It makes you a better rider and racer. I wouldn't say they were in bad shape at all. Triple has been over ridden and going back to nature. Trail 1,3, 7 were perfect and Dangerous Grounds was in great conditions except for the Triple diamond chute that is just treacherous.

@ Dirtyrig: I spoke with the owner, Lazlo on opening weekend (July 2nd) and he said pressure from mountains closer to the Boston (Thunder and Highland) and NY areas (MC) now Albany (West Mountain) have stolen a lot of the traffic. Those mountains are much easier to get to vs the 2.5hrs to Platte. It's not them not promoting, they do, it's riders not making the trip. It doesn't pay for him to have the mountain open and have a full staff if nobody comes. If we want him to stay open we need to make the effort to go and tell our friends to go. There was no excuse that Platte had only 20 riders on opening day. That was riders being lazy and wanting manicures.

I wish Plattekill would change the path they've chosen. By limiting their MTB season to only a handful of weekends they will not be around for much longer. This mountain has some of the best natural featured DH trails in the country, period! Please open the park back up for the weekends with a steady a trail crew.

Totally agree. I was there for the race weekend. Dedicated locals racing, but the trails need some serious love. I ventured over to the "triple chair" side of the mountain, and the trails over there are totally overgrown and practically unrideable...Sad. Even the trails on the "double chair" side are in bad shape. The future of Platty doesn't look good.

@BikeParkPRO: Yea it's sad, the owner found it more profitable to have weddings on the weekends instead of the biking. I understand that they've been doing the biking thing for a very long time and last few years they've seen a lot of serious competition from other mountains that has eroded their rider share. But Plattekill is one of the first lift service mountains for DH in North America, the DH MTB history of this place is insane! And the terrain and riding there is amazing, as long as the trails are cleaned and maintaned, which has been a problem last 5 or so years. Without regular season weekends and a steady trail crew they can't survive much longer. I've always said that they need someone to manage the biking part, the owner is just not up to speed with how bike parks and riders have and are evolving. This place has the best natural drops of anywhere I've ridden, but unless you know the place you would never find them and even if you find them you have to check the landings to make sure it's clear to do.

Had a great time! ESC runs great events. I hope Plattekill finds its answers. I'm sure weddings are probably more profitable, I just hope they give us some opportunities to ride and or race there in the future

They don't call it Splatty for nothing.
