 That line at the side of the steep line you avoided are called "chicken line", however it's perfectly fine to go there instead of a line that does not inspire you confidence. Having fun is the key, if you feel at risk you don't enjoy it and then you don't have fun and quit. Try using some glasses with a yellow tint and it will improve your visibility on darker trails / cloudy days. And keep at it, you'll get there.
