I broke my femur on this attempt of a Road gap, landed about 8-12" short of the 25 distance i needed and Rear wheel cased hard, The Snap sound at the end is the femur breaking.. No shit... Recovery time 3-6 months
Diagnosis. Center fracture of the Righ femur, Hairline fracture in the his on same side, minor break to Scapoid ( left shoulder blade ) on opposing ( left ) side.. Bummer.

bone itself takes 6-7 weeks, but getting your leg to actually work properly, your pretty close haha.

It's been a year, how is it?
I know you had a rod inserted into the bone, but when they do that did you wear a full leg/hip cast or something like that? Obviously you used crutches but as far as a cast goes, what was it because of your hip as well?
I ask because I broke my tibea (lower leg) in soccer, didn't need a rod, but had a cast go all the way up leg, so far up that one time when I prepared to sit down at a desk I had to lean and slide in (keep in mind I'm wearing kinda baggy gym shorts, easier to put on than anything else, you would know), I didn't do it right, and my balls snagged between the edge of the seat and my cast. It hurt so much when that happened, so bad it's past that vomiting squirly feeling to a blank mind help me kind of feeling. Random side note I know I'm sorry, but it really happened, something to cheer you up when you read this.
Good luck with the healing process. Because of my break, I was allowed to put weight on it which sped the process to 2 months, and 4 months until 100% healed.

No cast at all as the prosthetic is inside the bone. used crutches for a month and then a cane after, but not really for the hip, the femur hurts your entire body when it breaks, every time you move or breathe it hurts ... You do not want to break this bone, I shattered my heel 2 years prior and that was like eating ice-cream in comparison .
... sorry for the lateness of the reply.

It is at 100 % again for sure.. in fact I am able to catch 30 lbs more of free falling weight with this leg now, So i suppose in my re-couping of it I made it even stronger..
I beep when i go through metal detectors ( even though Ti is non Magnetic )
I am occasionally poked internally from a screw mounter a little too deep in my hip
and I am a little more cautious when it comes to Gap's, especially road gaps .
otherwise Great... Had a better season riding then I could ever have impagined, did some very technical lines and had a lot of fun.

Nope, I am a month later and Will be another 2 months before the Femur is Healed up, I also have a brocken left shoulder, though it is fairly minor in comparison. I will beep all the time now when I go through the metal detectors at the airport Cause I have a Titanium Nail drilled through the center of the Bone Holding the 2 Sides together.. Lotsa painkillers and Slow recovery everyday... When I'm better I'll have a look at it again, but It's hard to say... this may be a deamon I'll have to walk away from As it's quite a painfull and REsilient lesson learned. I'll be good enough to be on bike again next season, but will have to start off easy, prolly doing some Xc, to re-gain all the lost muscle mass in the injured leg, and I'll have to not rush The Healing and Be cautious about jumping stuf for a while... This Injury SUCK'S ..
