What a weird f*cking noise. I assume your chain line is straight. I have never heard anything make that noise before (other than popcorn). I wish I could be more help, but I have no f*cking idea what that could be. I would very much like to know when you figure it out. How bizarre.

I am going to go take a framing square to my bike just to make sure.

It sounds like it may be crooked chain line, but that is all I can think of.

Well I just checked, and its not off, and if it is, its off by am amount not traceable by the eye.

Then that is the mystery noise. Unless the chain itself is just f*cked. What kind of chain is it?

Edit: I have had chain lines that took me a very long time to notice they were crooked.

kmc 8h-2. i can't find it on the web.

Is it possible it is a wrong sized chain somehow?

Maybe one of your tire's beads is f*cked completely. And when you roll it resets itself in the place which it is touching the ground, making that really weird noise. Just a guess though.

Edit: after watching it again, probably not...

The guy who gave it to me does most of my drivetrain work, and he is a genious. I doubt it.

and for chatelife, it couldnt be, because its only on the power pedal strokes.

What about something dumb like a bent sprocket or f*cked driver? It definitely didn't sound like a bearing issue.

I have a slightly bent sprocket, but it really isn't that bad. The teeth are pretty fat on the MDS. The tips are like little squares. But my other chain ran flawlessly.

I have a feeling your chain is f*cked. Do you still have your old chain to toss on? If so just throw it on quick time and see if it still makes that f*cking noise. If not, you know it was the fault of a faulty chain. If so, keep hunting. You need a test chain ASAP.

1 chain got any lube on it? 1st guess your not a retard so it is
2 your chain plates are hitting the mds guard
3 your teeth have a slight over hang or mushrooming doubt full cause its heat treated but possible
4 your pawls are f*cked
5 not enough spring tension on the pawls so they are skipping around
6 bearing maybe
7 loose spokes ? maybe
can you spin it and its fine? or is it only once your coasting on the bike does it do it when your pedaling?

I think I found the problem. Explanation and pics in my last post in the bmx quick question dicussion thread.

I have no chain breaker, and the reason I got a new chain is because I broke a few side plates all at once. Do you want a closeup pics of the chain, chain on driver, and chain on sprocket?
