While Crankworx comes alive in Whistler Village, it's business as usual for many of the people that call Whistler home. I was lucky enough to tag along with the Chromag crew on their Friday shop ride. This week's mission: Black Tusk.
Chromag Whistler headquarters.
Duncan Riffle and Curtis Keene, popped by to say hi before a day of Enduro training.
Mid-climb break. Four hours in, three to go to the top. Not your average approach.
Hike-a-bike on the way to the Tusk.
Insignificance under the Black Tusk.
On route to the Tusk.
The jagged shape of the Black Tusk mountain and its black colouring are said to come from the Thunderbird's lightning.
Retreating snow pack at the base of the Tusk.
The hike up to the top of the Tusk is a slightly unnerving experience. With so much loose volcanic rock, every move can be your last.
The final approach to the top of the Tusk. Exposed.
Hiking up the lava dome that is Black Tusk.
The real Top of the World.
Castle Towers mountain.
The Black Tusk.
Garibaldi Lake. Go there.
Alpine lunch spot.
Logger's Lake trails.
Thanks for the ride Kevin.
After ride decompression.
*Please Note* - Riding in the Garibaldi Park is not allowed and this climb was accessed via the service road from the Northwest side.
Stay tuned for more adventures all week with Margus Riga.
Mammoth isn't anywhere near whistler, but mammy and northstar are really bringing their bike parks up to speed. I'll be riding both here at the end of the month.
