Sunday morning rolled around and the tension mounted for the day that was about to unfold on the gnarliest track of the year. The smack talking had stopped and the riders all meant buisness. Final practice saw a destroyed track and a few big crashes that would end some of the riders' weekends.
Saturday morning bought a calm to the pits in preparation for Qualifying on the scariest track of the year. After a couple of practice runs to suss out the new holes that had formed it was time to go. In true TB form he came down in first position just pipping Connor Fearon.
The shuttle bus mood is way more sedate on the finals run up the hill.

I can't believe Shelly Flood didn't get a re run or something!! If you catch the rider in front of you there should be an automatic re run. The fact that she managed forth while trying to pass someone is amazing!!
Its pretty standard in racing that you dont get a rerun for catching someone.
It may not be the best set up but everyone is in with the same chance of it happening to them.
That happened in one of our GES races because the guy ahead crashed and the guy after caught him and he got a re run. I can't fathom why standard practice would be not to have a re run in an event like that? schedule? event has to finish before dark or something??
@speedyjonzalas, is that a standard Aussie or NZ deal? With USACycling, if you catch someone during a race run and manage to snag an official, you get a rerun. However, it has to be immediately after finishing and there are usually other issues if a race marshal can't verify the obstacle or run interruption.
@Nimble9, I can't believe it, either. To not give her a rerun is bullshit... Everyone should have a fair chance to show their best, not be hindered by the person in front of them. I've had it happen before and it's infuriating.
Consider if you have 200 plus riders all and they each get a seeding and race run. That takes you to 400 runs to fit in between around 11am to 4pm.
Eg 80 riders an hour.
Now factor in getting people to the top of the hill, locating missing riders, reruns for crash stoppages (sometimes a crash can stop racing for an hour), timing system problems, problems with the radios... the list is endless.
So most of the time if you catch a rider and they dont impeed you too badly then its classed as bad luck. However if they really mess your run up then yes you may get a rerun.
Also remember most races are run with volunteers and many race events are non profit, so you cant just extend the racing to 7pm because all of a sudden you dont have any drivers, course marshalls, paramedics or event runnners!
Im assuming that it's because if she didn't win but was wearing the sleave then it's protraying she's the national champ when infact she isn't. Just speculation
I seriously find it hard to believe, as a race organiser and generally knowledgable fellow on all things racing, you get neg propped for a real world view on the situation
They can. They can also not seem very fair at times. But everyone competing in an event has to agree with and abide by those rules, that is just life unfortunately.
in this race 1 rerun ,no big deal ,if contestant ok with hold up and didnt want re run also ok surely we can do better than "computer says no" mentality
i just can't imagine trying to schedule timing for a race if you start implementing re runs. Yes in this case it might seem the fair thing to do but before long you'll have Everyman and his dog pestering for a re run then those who feel it's unfair that someone was given a rerun pestering to.
May seem harsh but with no re runs there are no complaints, no ongoing timing issues and no ensuing pinkbike war over fairness
if you are happy with the way things are thats ok for you .just trying to say its not the only way .progressive thought moves the world forward not obedient acceptance
(if i'm wrong ignore or downvote haha)

Yes its mainly down to the schedule.
