Like the popular Whiskey & Grand Junction Off-Road events, the Carson City Off-Road offers three distance options allowing beginner, weekend warrior and pro level mountain bikers to choose the challenge that’s right for them. Distances include the Capitol 15, 35 & 50 routes, where 1 Capitol = 1 mile; the prefix pays homage to the event’s location in front of the sprawling lawn of Nevada’s State Capitol building on Carson St.

A featured landmark among a smorgasbord of Capitol City opportunities and experiences, participants will enjoy the opportunity to pass by the Nevada State Governor’s mansion along each route, including the kids ride and Pro criterium course. Most impressive, the Pro category has been invited to the Governor’s mansion for their pre-ride meeting on Friday, June 17th at 2 p.m.

Interesting fact, according to historical researchers, Mark Twain actually followed the Ash Canyon trail and the roads around Tunnel Creek on his hike to Lake Tahoe in 1861. Later, he said he would recommend a horse instead, but one must wonder if he would have preferred a mountain bike.

Indeed! These trails are superb, and have only begun to scratch the surface of the potential the region has to offer. We need attention like this to showcase the quality trails, and wonderful mountain biking community the Reno/Sparks, Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Truckee are have to offer. I'm looking forward to riding this event as a local, and participating in (hopefully) the start of something good for the regions. Cheers!

I just rode these trails tonight and read the course announcement when I got home. Great motivation to get in shape for the 50!

The climb to Spooner will be a b****, but rest of the loop showcases some of the best that the area has to offer.

Congrats to the Muscle Powered team for establishing such a great trail system within riding distance of downtown Carson City! It’s truly a testament to what can be accomplished when a group of dedicated volunteers works in cooperation with local officials to open more terrain for mountain biking (and share it for mixed use).
