  • 36 0
Looks like that stump could've been snipped back a little further?? Yeesh. Aiello's crash was nasty.
  • 3 4
both dead ? that was horrible lookk at the second one his legg hit the stump so hard

thats probably one thing where uci is doing a good job, keeping this unnecessary stupid danger obstacles away from the trackside

All Pro GRT races are UCI sanctioned.Quote from USA Cycling "“This raises the bar of international competition here at home and provides an arena for U.S. riders to gain UCI points toward valuable World Cup and World Championship starts,” said Micah Rice, USA Cycling Vice President of National Events. “It means less travel for our riders, which provides more opportunity for American international success.”

So lame, right b4 neko's crash I said to myself, wtf didn't they cut those waaay back?!
  • 3 3
I was racing CAT2 and we had the same upper section. That corner sucked, it took me out so hard in practice and really hope that gets fixed before the next race in 2 weeks because the rest of the course was so dialed.
  • 2 0
Riders need to speak up, before practice, and the local/org need to be more mindful!
  • 13 1
We'll take a look at it for sure. The UCI did an inspection on Thursday and were satisfied. One tough part is that the whole line they were riding (and just past that) were not even there prior to the race. It's always tricky because as soon as you move something, there are 3 other things that are now "in the way". Kevin is alright and that's what's important right now. Thanks everyone for coming out!

As a commissaire myself it can be pretty hard to identify every hazard as things change so much and people ride different lines. If riders tell the organizers at the time they can respond. Otherwise do your best to dodge it - id be going right around ha!

Hey it's downhill racing....its inherently dangerous to begin with...don't hit the damned stumps or trees ect or race a lower class and you can ride the bunny hill...problem solved....
  • 2 2
@scotttherider did you see who hit some of the some of these stumps and trees? Not some Cat 2 or 3 rider, Kevin Aiello and Neko not exactly bunny hill riders. I am sure they are light years faster than you.
  • 4 3
I have no doubts at all they are way faster than me but do you see them on here complaining about the course? Did they say the course needed to be changed? I'd be willing to guess not. I didn't claim to be faster than anyone. I will say that I raced up there on the Cat 1 course for the last race of last season with a blown out knee and my result showed it but will you hear me bitching about a course....f*ck no! I've gotten busted up bad on a few courses in dangerous sections and even had a buddy get helivaced off of a course and did he say a damned thing about the dangers of a tree to close to the course that caused him to open fracture his tib-fib on course....Nope. Downhill ing is dangerous get the f*ck over it!
  • 7 1
That section was fine. There are stumps all over downhill tracks the world over. It's dangerous out there, and that section wasn't out of the ordinary by any means.
  • 2 0
All these safety concerns are starting smell like some UCI SPIES. BURN THE LYCRA!!
  • 4 0
Not really faulting anyone. The course was reasonable and riders are responsible for their own riding. At the same time, it would better for that waist high log to be cut back from the trail or painted for visibility. I broke my hand once by hitting such a log. Never even saw it because I was focusing on the trail. My fault completely of course. When noted it is nice to remove unneeded danger as long as it doesn't dumb down the trail.
  • 3 1
@dfiler well said, the issue isnt the danger of the logs, riding DH is inherently dangerous.
It is beneficial to everyone in this sport to minimize those issues when they don't add to the thrill, just the risk.
  • 3 0
We'll make sure that things gone for next race, the trail wasn't that wide last year
  • 4 0
@dfiler thats exactly what i mean. Of course downhil is hard, but the difficulty of the track isnt harmed by removing obstacles, that are obviously not ridden over, but adding danger in case of a crash on the course
  • 1 1
I totally agree @dfiler but somehow that log moved Sunday morning. Somebody must have hit it or ...god forbid....moved it on purpose because it didn't protrude nearly that much in the pre ride video.
  • 1 0
Went back and checked the videos. It doesn't look like the log moved. Traffic wore the trail a bit closer is all.

Miranda Miller!! 1st race back in almost 2 years and right in there with Jill who has been crushing it this season. Someone has been training hard. Nice work M!!

Well... that explains Neko's result. That looked hard!
  • 2 0
Friend just posted video of Neko and his bike after crash www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZjnYjcJHQE
Broken seatpost and handlebar but he looks fine.
  • 1 3
Kind of looked like his bars snapped before he crashed?
  • 5 0
@bikesandfun His bike flew end over end into a thicket of trees which caused not only his bar to snap, his post also snapped, and his bike was manhandled. Fortunately, Neko was not attached to it at that point. He was hauling too much ass through that spot and over shot it which caused him to land from 15 feet to flat on his body and flung his bike like a slingshot. It looked like a bigfoot went running through the trees.
  • 1 1
@deityusa , That makes sense, I just couldn't tell from the video.
  • 1 0
Hey what was Logan complaining about?
  • 8 2
Nice Deity ad there from Neko
  • 4 3
wonder if it snapped pre-crash (and caused the crash) or post-crash. I had a deity bar that snapped pre-crash and sent me eating dirt pretty fast
they dont seem to be all that supportive on the CS side with these events either. or perhaps i've had an isolated event
  • 1 0
i think his whole body smooshed the front end of the bike
  • 17 2
He had a massive crash that snapped his seatpost, shattered his lid, and beat the crap out of his bike when the bike went tumbling end over end. Pretty insane that he walked away from it as he hit really really hard. No bar would have survived. Fortunately he is strong as hell!

Props for showing up here! Smile

Glad he's ok, been excited to see him win since the chainless run
  • 9 1
He is riding on another level right now! It is going to be a blast watching him do his thing all season long. Just check that clip of him blasting into that berm, so damn fast! We agree...so glad he is okay! If his body would have ended up like his bike...it could have been bad. Neko is built like a brick!

 That's why I ride Renthal.

What dietyusa said. He pretty much body slammed from 15 feet in the air.

After :58 seconds, I was cringing at every rider.
Heal up Neko.

That line was wild. Didn't see that until this video. Nice work by Max.

@MTBMania I've noticed in all your videos when interviewing, your microphone only gives you sound in one headphone. I'd recommend using a right audio fill on your editing to fix that problem.
