Sea Otter 2010 - Troy Brosnan Interview

Apr 15, 2010
by Jordan Holmes
The Monster Energy Specialized race team is a force to be reckoned with this season. Recently they added young gun Troy Brosnan to the team, so I sat down and had a quick chat with him at Sea Otter about his career, and the bike he is riding.

Check out the article inside... Monster Energy Specialized has some big names on their team this year. Sam Hill and Brendan Fairclough were the originals, but recently Troy Brosnan has been added to the roster. Troy is a 16 year old ripper from Australia who is in it to win it. He has already had some great finishes at international events like Crankworx in Whistler.

So dope. Like the new lever bodies on the codes too. And i like how he is well spoken unlike other pro athletes in other sports, where when they open their mouths you wonder how they even got their pants on in the morning

he needs to get training. get peddlin' boyo!

What a lucky kid! But is it just me, he didnt seem very Stoaked? - Still Bike is looking sweet tup
  • 2 1
i had to look it up... Stoaked - "Ready to go, full of adrenaline and fired up for any challenge, usually involving steep mountains or homemade ramps."
yeh he seems pretty laid back but then again when youre touring with a big MTB team youre gonna be laid back arnt ya. maybe when he dons his helmet and pads he turns into a DH monster.

He's more 'stoked' that he wants to show. He just doesn't want to appear overly excited otherwise he feels he wouldn't be taken as professionally and seriously as he would like. You can tell he's pretty thankful for his family and they mean a lot to him, but he tries not to make it a big deal when he thanks them at the end and stuff.

Anyone more who wants to see Sam Hill? Heard he had a knee injury and couldn't race this year, Want to know if that's true!!!
  • 1 0
Saw this kid with his bike today, suuuuch a sick sxt.
  • 1 1
i never herd of world cup on an sxt but its not like you cant do the same shit with 1.3 inches less travel
  • 3 0
What? Sea Otter isnt a world cup.
  • 2 0
hes only using his sxt for sea otter; theres no need for a full blown dh rig on that course

He's not even that good, Lew Buchanan is guna fuck him over this year.
  • 3 1
he is 16, and has a long way to go... howd do you know how his results will go? have you even met him? it seems harsh to judge considering the world cup hasnt even started
  • 5 4
To be fair, lewis buchanan will dominate him.
  • 3 1
 @sam hopkins - +1 tup

a bit too much hype for this guy me thinks, there are faster juniors out there
  • 2 0
 definatley.
  • 2 1
Watch out for Dan Franks from NZ at worlds, he should be there, and right up near the top.
  • 2 0
i agree with whitetux, seems like the only reason hes getting so much hype is because he got picked up by monster. still, im sure he's a very talented rider.
  • 2 0
i havnt seen any video's or anything of this guy riding ? so i dont really know how good he is...
i guess we'll find out this year!
  • 4 1
i mean, lewis buchanan from innerleithen in Scotland is riding for the evil team which is relatively large and there is no hype there and he is just as fast if not faster than most elites in the uk, same with sam flockhart who has signed on for lapierre with two top riders and little hype there
  • 3 0
I think all the hype is because, a) He's buddies with Sam Hill, and b) He is on the same team as Hill. He is a damn good rider though, rode with him in Whistler last year.

Troy is a super quick and smooth rider, just wait when he starts to build strength as he's a whippet at the moment. His results in Australia at a comparative age to Hill, Rennie and Kovarik have surpassed what they had achieved. Regarding promotion Specialized is probably a larger magnet for the media attention but that means the other teams just need to work more, it's not that hard to work out. I'll start warming up some humbe pie for you all when you see his results this year, hope your hungry as you'll be eating a lot.
  • 1 0
I was just saying, Specialized is such a huge company that if you ride for them, you are going to have more media coverage than if you ride for Evil or Lapierre. The time he posted at the Canadian Open was phenomenal.
  • 1 1
Lewis buchanan beat former junior world champion, ruiridh cunningham (whilst getting fastest time of the day), now if that doesnt show that he is on it then i dont know what does
  • 1 0
No disrespect to Lewis, but he doesn't ride for one of the biggest bicycle companies in the world, thats all I'm trying say really.
  • 1 1
lew rides for one of the BEST though, surely its quality that matters (not that spesh arent good, but tbh i think evil are better)
  • 10 0
damn the monster took him away from his mom quick Wink becoming pro at 16 seem crazy to me. I couldnt imagine having a job which required me to be overseas so much at such a young age even though its a pretty damn fun JobBig Grin

 AUSSIE-AUSSIE-AUSSIE, TROY-TROY-TROY Big Grin
  • 2 1
@ Sam Hopkins: Lewis Buchanan? I didn't see his name anywhere in the Maribor results? hmmm did he qualify? Maybe I misread it. Where did Troy end up? Oh yeh, fastest Junior by nine seconds... I doubt Specialized are in the business I hiring slow riders. They obviously regard him as a future champion.
A big team needs to pick up Connor Fearon, he's the only other kid in Oz that can give Troy a real run for his money.
  • 1 0
Well if you knew anything his brakes failed in quali and crashed 3 times so I am not surprised he did not qualify
  • 2 0
i read somewhere he caught Hill's attention at a race or two and got asked to join soon after. if that's true he's gotta be pretty F'n quick for one of the fastest in the world to ask him to join his team?!!?!
  • 1 0
dude did you even watch the video? it says in there *facepalm*
  • 4 1
Agreed Christo there are aster juniors but i still think he will be right up there!!
  • 4 0
 yeah troy
  • 2 0
He must be a very lucky and talented rider...I hope he could do wellSmile
  • 1 0
did troy remind anyone else of sam in the interview? just how he doesnt look at the camera all the time and how he answers questions... ( and no i dont mean the accent )
  • 1 0
Need a close up of the brakes! Those calipers don't look like the old codes.....
  • 1 0
They look like Elixir CR levers on Code calipers... maybe that's how the new Codes will be.
  • 1 0
They are new 2011 Codes, the levers are designed after the CR Mag and XX.
  • 1 0
The new code 4 piston caliper is less bulky and allot nicer,Avid has now made the best looking 4 piston brakes imo.
  • 1 1
I disagree, I think the Saint looks much nicer.
  • 2 0
