Seen this one before... He is on his way to eating a dirt sandwich. Cool photo, but not POD. HE'S FALLING. (And why would think he's racing??? See a number plate anywhere? All I see is that he's riding a Crack-n-fail...)
for all you people who say it shouldnt be pod, its not all about what the rider is doing. thats an unreal picture and that is why it is pod. do you realise what kind of timing you have to have to make this shot because he is only in tht position for a fraction of a second. and the lighting just adds to how great this shot is.
The only thing that could be better about this pic is if he still had his foot on the pedal, totally committed, and if there was gnarly roost coming from his bars, that would be sick to.
Then you could take a before and after burm shot with the berm completely destroyed and a rut made from the bars and pedal
Just for the record: I don't know who John is, but I can assure you the rider's name is Nick. The trail is not secret, it's I-Street in Salt Lake City.
Was it a crash??? Only the photographer (Steve Lloyd) can answer that. I hit that berm at least 50 times during that photo session and tapped bars 4 times that day (and rode out), I only crashed about twice the whole day. My suspision is that this photo was on of those two times, but I honestly can't say for sure.
Was it a drift or a skid??? Look closely, both hands are fisting the bars!!! (ie no brakes) I don't normally ride death grip style, but I thought it would add to the authenticity of the pic.
Misc info... the pic really should be twisted clockwise about 15 degrees to show the actual layout of the trail. That shot IS possible without crashing, although I think I may have fell on that one. No, I didn't get hurt, but I'll definately wear carbon knuckle gloves next time I take pics of that turn. The roost is back lit with a remote flash, Steve is a really talented photographer. Yes, we'll get sequence shots next time we are there, I promise...
hes allready on the ground i dont think it would be a good pod i could go and flyin into a dusty berm and skid and fall but take a pic so their is a giant roost. i wana see this when ppl dont fall.
even if he were to fall he still hung on to his bars actually trying to save it longer than alot of people would so thats some sick shit for the rider and the camera man with the angle and lighting.
the guy above my comment no offence but your a douche:P ofcourse hese gunna fall his handle bars have already touched the ground....and sick shot holy f*ckarooo thats so sick
what is so good about a shot of some1 crashing? and if what jean-dirt sed is tru, then pinkbike have realy got to get sum new pics, look a bit deeper and you may find some qauility underground shots from local riders!
"Pinkbike to get new pics". Well, it really is up to the USERS is it not? "Local Riders". Whats local to you is nowhere near what's local to me. One could argue this is a local rider, taken that you are referring to the place he's from.
Anyways. Great shot, great POD Choice as the timing is perfect, the lighting is superb, and the riding is downright pushing it to the limits.
Did you plan on your shirt matching the color of the dirt? I guess it's easier to hide the fact that you fell that way.... Great picture though. I can only imagine you were rippin that berm pretty hard.
