People are darting about, frantic in getting up and down the track. The square is alive and packed like sardines by 10:30 am. The energy here in Taxco is about as insane as all of the wires that criss-cross from telephone pole to house and up and down and back and forth. In this Taxco edition of the City Downhill World Tour, Filip Polc took the overall lead with a second place finish, and Bernardo Cruz took the win.
Good morning Taxco.
Sunrise warms the face of the hill in Taxco.
It was an early start for practice on the lower section. Racers were shuttled up in the back of pick-ups and in vans to get to the drop of by 8 am.
There are artisans working on jewelry in nearly one house per block here in Taxco.
Not a bad place for a cat to hang out and watch a race if a cat were so inclined.
This town uses a fair amount of electricity.
Clipped in and still moto inspired, Ropelato had his foot plat scrubs over the spine dialed.
Thomas Slavik rallied the stairs to take 3rd
Today's eventual top 3 were all riding in a speed train during morning practice
Bernard Kerr up close and personal with someone's balcony
Wil White was all limber and ready to throw down first thing this morning.
Mitch wasn't the only one with scrubs dialed as Bas wasn't afraid to slide things sideways.
A fall in Taxco is never a good idea.
Putting the finishing touches on that legendary Taxco silver.
Filip Polc was 2nd on the day but would take the overall title in the 2014 City Downhill World Tour.
Heal up Jamie Goldman
A bloody helmet and handlebars tell the tale of Goldman's day. Luckily he is just scraped up a bit and will be ok.
Bernardo Cruz scrubs the final jump en route to the fastest time of the day.
R-Dog inspired by the ever-present crosses here in Taxco.
Brett Rheeder just getting warmed up with a big back flip.
Remy Metallier skipped the big jump and went for a massive wall ride instead.
R-Dog whips as Gully flips during the best trick jam
Finn Iles shows why he is the the king of the whip.
Another shot of Finn for good measure.
Bernardo Cruz played his cards right today. Cruz walked away with the win.
Gully and Rheeder took the early lead with textbook style
Superman Wil White
Makken and R Dog trained up on their seeding run.
CVD got in late last night and pretty much hit everything cold. Sure, he had a couple spills along the way, but he ended up nailing the wall ride to back flip.
At the bottom of the first set of stairs on his first run yesterday, Kerr yelled,'That was awful!" Clearly he got used to it quick.
Antoine Bizet won best trick with a massive front flip for the second year in a row.
Rheeder dropping out of the living room, and into the street. Rheeder took a respectable 8th today.
Marcelo had a crash on his seeding run that nearly tore off the tip of his ring finger. Heal up quick Marcello.
If this was a stadium it would have been sold out... Standing room only.
Tomas Slavik charging hard mid way down the track. Slavik took third.
Cruz, Polc, Slavik, Ropelato, and Kerr make up the top five in Taxco.
Your 2014 Taxco Urban DH Champion - Bernardo Cruz.
It's hard not to think the drying laundry here looks very much like the prayer flags of Tibet.
Sorry, not sorry. It's time to party and the Taxco after party is one of the best all year.
Bandaged up at the end of the race. Marcelo had to make a trip to another hospital this evening to ensure his finger is well taken care of.
Mick Hannah was on the outskirts of the autograph mob. Things got wild in the thick of it.
There aren't DH fans anywhere else in the world like this. Well done Mexico, thanks for the love.
I dig the townhill series. It's great to see some heavy hitters there supporting our sport and making an event like this such a big success. The track ain't no joke with drops like that... It's growing folks. Even in war-torn places like this.
please can we have one of these events in London, England? I have just the right track already earmarked with some steep elevation coming off the NW into Central London
There must surely be a better place in the UK to host one of these kind of townhill races rather than London mate, if they want to make it a spectacle then they need real nasty steep staircases and a good length of decent. I couldnt imagine London being that suitable. That said, I hope they hold one somewhere in te UK soon with all these top riders showing up like this......
Well, War-torn????? I just feel sorry for the red neck that wrote that. There are more killings in US schools every day than in Mexico with the drug problem.
War??? you are so dumb my texan friend, you are at war, we are not.
345 people have been shot in US schools since 1980. In 2013 there were 940 murders in Acapulco alone (making it a city with the 3rd highest murder rate in the world). In the list of 50 cities with the highest murder rate in the world 43 are in Latin America. First non Latin American city is Cape Town in 20th place, first US city is Detroit in 24th place.
Lausunne Switzerland is one if the only european cities i can think of that has a similae elevetion drop within a well populated city, maybe Koblenz in germany too. But nothjng i can think of in the UK
Texan? Yes... Redneck? Yeah a college educated one.... Friend? Probably not. I have Mexican bros from down there that call some places there just that, war-torn.
I don't understand what can be such a big problem to call the magistrat of any town, you guys are living in, and ask for permission to have like a half of the width of some urban stairs taped out for half of a Sunday. An event like this does not need as much organisation as it may seem. Just some will. A mayor won't call you to ask if you want to ride some stairs, because he has probably no idea of, among other, how it should look like. A mayor is usually a very busy person, who sticks to his wife / her husband, family after work, so there is no a tiniest chance to count on his initiative. This seems obvious to me. An event like this can only happen in some free time of a weekend, or even an evening, because other citizens surely do have some life and duties to perform. You should try. "How hard can it be?" Afterall medieval customs belong to the past. It's democracy and everybody is equal, right? It is so easy to ostracise, or criticize an event of others initiative, and when it comes to some devotion, there are only whining puppies left, helplessly looking at each other.
Do you think everyone in the USA is a redneck because Im not one of them. If you think rednecks are people from Texas well thats kinda more correct. Not everyone in the USA is from fucking Texas ya rotter
@skyguy504 I have no idea whose comment you are replying to, but USA is one enormous country. Its size is comparable with Europe, so the only major reason for all generalisations and sterotypes is its collective name. This way people address some specific type of personality they think of, describing it American, but it is way to wide term (like European). In my opinion there are people in USA worth every bit of worlds existing respect and people who don't deserve it at all. There are not many countries and nations as big as the USA, so the generalisations should more be labeled with the names of particular States, if ever. However this is known only to Americans or possibly tourists. So please calm down. There are opinions in the world about Americans who are fat, rude, stupid and arrogant, but there are also people who are extremely intelligent, of majestic talents and deserving loads of appreciation and respect. In fact there are all types of people in every country and the only blame the USA bears is the number of the citizens named all Americans and types of personalities concentriated around places, so it is all very visiblle and considerable. This is like saying all Europeans steal cars. It is not true. Some Germans perceive Poles to be car thieves, but I don't know any and I would not steal a car even if had nothing to eat. Generalisations and stereotypes are just the wrong tools to use in life at all, especially among worldwide internet societies like on Pinkbike.
@Narro2 while I agree that if 43 of 50 cities with the highest murder rate in the world are in Latin America, it looks like a stereotype, I doubt that it's something we can stop because it's not us who started it. You can't change the truth by not talking about it.
we certainly have some long, steep sustained road hills coming off the NW towards Central London
a number of years ago some buddies and I seriously looked at holding an event we called "City Super Cross" in the NW location. Some stairs in tight streets, but then leading into the construction on the road of huge dirt jump and timber booters / stunts (wallrides, north shore ladders, etc.) coming down the steeps
Got as far as talking to insurers, local authorities, etc. we quickly found that the costs of operating the event were way beyond our meagre means, but certainly within the realms of Red Bull or a similar sponsor
What does 'coming off the NW into Central London' mean? Any urban DH track in Highgate/Hampstead & GG/Swiss Cottage is gonna be NW but hardly going to make it into town
@extremmist, get yourself a couple of plane tickets and travel around the world, outside your continent...talk to real people. That will change that mindset of yours you got going on right now.
Haha, just what I was thinking, those comments coming from somebody from a little island that had one of the blodiest civil wars of last century and daring to talk about Acapulco......one of the pieces of paradise of the Pacific Ocean.
I just came back from a three hour ride on my downhill bike. Bombing down stairs, gaping curbs and doing bike path road gaps.
I am ready for next year!
This is just so badass. Its like on the opposite side of redbull rampage, with more of a race then freestyle but just enough of both to bring all kinds of characters out of the woodwork.
Yeah honestly, the kid boosts harder then any one I've ever seen. I watched him over the lower candian open section in whistler a few times this year, where he pulls those bikes skills from ill never know.
GREAT JOB TO ALL!!! THE FANS, THE RIDERS, AND THE PHOTOG.
THERE'S AN URBAN DH RACE COMING NEXT MONTH IN ENSENADA, SO IF YOU LIVE IN SO-CAL IT'S JUST A FEW HOUR DRIVE. A COUPLE OF OUR RAMPAGE BIKE EMPLOYEES WILL BE TRYING TO GET BAPTIZED WITH CHAMPAGNE ON THE PODIUM. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.
nothing like this race in taxco, one of the most cities DH full fan people in the world fore sure, theres a lot of history in this event, and the people of taxco have a awesome culture about race DH.
Blood on your bike is the ultimate show of manliness and dedication. I still haven't washed the blood off my cranks from the last rock that split my shin open.
ah yeah, ok. stairs i understand. i do tend to just slip down them now i think about it. cobblestones i don't have much experience riding on them but i guess it is the same principle.
didn't say he couldn't ride, just said he is whiny. I'm sure when no one picks him up for the next few years because he is sore loser, and he doesn't win rampage again, he will fall off.
Fall off of what? One of the highest drops of the event..... Sore looser? There's only one winner of Rampage and I'm sure everyone is sore after an event like that.
You do realize he's the only Rider at rampage that can and will expose the politics though right? He has nothing to lose if a big name said what was really going on he would have some voicemails to answer to executives who want to protect image at all costs including politics

Btw I'm not native Irish, I've only been living here for 5 years, apparently not long enough to witness scenes like this: www.borderlandbeat.com/2010/12/two-men-brutally-dismembered-in.html
