For the first time ever you can get on board with the rider for an actual Downhill World Cup run.
First up is Marcelo Gutierrez. His run eventually placed the Columbian 11th and gave him a time that was just under seven seconds behind Aaron Gwin’s winning time.
I wish that the UCI would do away with this lame helmet camera ban during race runs. In Supercross lots of riders wear Gopro's during the races, and it is awesome to see the race unfold from their prospective, it is incredible to watch. The use of helmet cameras during competition will only increase interest in the sport and show everyone how hard they are pushing in their race runs. Everything to gain, and nothing to lose, COME ON UCI!
Is it not a safety aspect why they're not allowed? I read something awhile back that if you hit your head on the spot you have mounts on your helmet it can casue that much more PSI upon impact in that spot and cause head trauma that would have otherwise been avoided by not having the mount on your helmet.
Agreed though it would be great to see more of this!!
that logic only makes sense for contact sports where two people or two vehicles are dependent on each others safety equipment being tip top to prevent injury from others. but in DH mtb only one rider rides at each time so it should up to that person how safe they want to be with them selves and whats in their sponsors contract
I heard it was to prevent time contestations... But on the other hand it could be good to check if rider respect the course, and don't cut it... there isn't marchal on every turns on the long fast track...
As a 17 year old still living at home my mom won't let me have a gopro (I even bought one myself and she brought it back to the store) because she thinks I will push myself to go faster to get better footage, maybe UCI is just being the overly protective mother of all the racers.
4.3.014 Cameras are not permitted during qualifying rounds and finals. The riders are
responsible for securing the fixation of the cameras in order to avoid any danger. The
UCI can decide to allow a camera during finals but only for the usage of the TV
production company.
From UCI rulebook. It has been this way for at least 2 years now.
Agreed though it would be great to see more of this!!
I mean if you hit your helmet on a pointy rock it's gonna cause far more damage than a 2 inch square.
Would of thought it's more to do with redbull having some sort of exclusivity to the footage during race runs.
holy $hit that pedaly bit is long!
holy sh1t those tables are big!
holy sh!t DH racing is awesome!

It's an automatic startgate so the time of the race run will only start when the rider leaves the gate.
Just like ski racing actually.
