For those who would still ignore it, the Megavalanche Alpe d’Huez is one of the most famous and not-to-be-missed DH marathon races. And now officially powered by @Bluegrassboard for 2016.

Since 1995, thousands of riders depart from the famous “Pic Blanc” in every weather condition. The mass start is at 3330 meters on the glacier, and the finish line is in Allemont, 2600 meters down meaning this DH Marathon race the longest and craziest race in the world.

Fond memories of many middle aged men agressively fist pumping on the startline, and all the fatbikes having a horrible time. 2012

I am signed up for the first time this year and have a quick question about medicals and race license etc. I have heard stuff about needing a doctors note etc but the website is so shit that I can't find any info.
Also, do you have to wear a back protector? Again - no info that I can find online!
Cheers

No doctors note if you take out their insurance (this is just basic cover you will still need additional insurance in case of heliport, repatriation etc)
Plenty of people forge doctors notes anyway as if checked it's likely to just be glanced at
Back protector and elbow pads compulsory (I think), knee and shin highly recommended although at no point did anyone seem to be checking back protection
It was hot last year (34degrees) riding at that elevation, in heat, in full face and armour always extremely draining

 Hey,

Even if everything is not explicitly shown on our website, a quick look on the race regulation might have been an help regarding your inquires ;-)

About the first, you only need a medical note in the case that your a not licensed by a Cycling Federation.
Concerning the required protective gear :
- Full-face Helmet
- Elbow guards.
- Full finger gloves.
(Knee guards are only heartily recommended)

All the other regulations can be find here :
www.ucc-sportevent.com/wp-content/uploads/Regulations-MEGAVALANCHE-ALPE-2016-.pdf

And in case of a problem, or specific question, please contact us at : info@uccsportevent.com

Hey, just go to your GP and ask them to write a letter saying you are fit and well enough to race a mountain bike in the French Alps (as an amateur). I had a new GP this year and he was hesitant, so he booked me in for a ECG - everything was fine, wrote me a letter ... happy days. It is strenuous work this race, .... the organisers don't want people to enter who are not fit or well enough to be there, which is pretty sensible really.

@UCCSportEvent: Hey, thanks for the reply and for the link. That has all the info that I need. I went back to your website to try and find that document though and still can't find it. Am I being silly or is is hidden?
Maybe it should be more obvious because I am certain that other first timers will be searching for the same info.

Cheers.

@MTB-Strength-Factory: Hey, the document can be find in the "schedule" of the Megavalanche !

But, indeed I must admit that it is not so obvious...

Will find a solution for that !

Happy to help !

Cheers,

I think that is last year as it had that bare rock to the riders left of the start and shit snow i know as i was front row on the 2nd race, on the very left, so that rocky patch was my only hope in not getting crushed and i stared at it lustfully for what felt like hours!
