think you will find that you speak our language your history starts with us and you drive on the wrong side not us. But this video was made even better by having an english song top vid.

To be fair SpinyLobster was very diplomatic and didn't say we drove on the wrong side, he said we drive on opposite sides.

Actually yes I do, it's simple, it's down to the majority of the population being right handed. It dates back to medieval times when if you passed somebody you passed on the left to make sure your sword arm was between the pair of you, meaning you were best able to protect yourself if the need arose. This was common practice and then in the late 1700s with an increase in horse drawn carriages, the government made a bylaw stating that carriages should keep to the left (the natural side to pick given people's natural tendency to pass on the left at the time). This was then passed as law some time later on.
This was general practice all over the world at the time, so why do most of the world drive on the right now? The answer is Napoleon. He was left handed, and therefore to better protect himself when passing an opponent it was advantageous for him to pass on the right, and he made his armies do the same. If you look at which countries still drive on the left, generally they were once part of the British Empire, with a few additions. Countries that weren't part of the BE and wanted to disassociate themselves with Britain (including America, Britain was actually a minority in terms of colonising America) followed France's example and changed to drive on the right.
And there concludes the history lesson.

No Angryham, that's what you call listening at school mate. You shouldn't need Wikipedia for basic British history if you're British. It's just a shame that that's just not the case with so many Brits, and that's why the majority of people, like Nickroy, think that all Brits are ignorant of their own history.

A recent comment of Angryham which supports my statement aptly.
"oh man, sitting through triple history today was so worth it when i remembered that its tuesday and so another episode of this is coming out...top stuff!"

um... ok.... but...we don't actually learn about that kind of thing, I'm actually learning crime and punishment through the ages in history, so if you would kindly stop trying to impress everyone with your pissy little copy and pastes then that would suit me fine. this website is about bikes, not trying to teach everyone worthless things they will never use again.

lol if you knew this particular worthless thing then you may not have made yourself look so silly, but that last comment did make me laugh, so I'll leave this one at that.

If you say so Nickroy. If that were true though you could copy my statement, after the first sentence of course, pop it into Google and you'd find the page that I copied it from straight away. Try it, you come up with some random pages not even concerned with driving on the road.
And this is what I mean about people's views of the Brits, we are NOT all ignorant of our own history, and I actually really enjoy our history. I could tell you loads about the Roman invasion of Britain, the Napoleonic Wars, the medieval war with France and all sorts. If you don't believe me then that's your prerogative, it makes no difference to whether I actually know this or not does it? So I'm happy to know that I know this stuff without having to look it up, and if you go copy/paste my explanation of why we drive on the left, then that will prove I didn't just copy/paste it from a site.
