Good luck

@newbermuda
Thanks… Bike was too good of a deal to let pass. I may end up supporting our local suspension shop a tad more than usual in ‘23.
Ah well… Willing to take the risk… Let’s see how it goes…

Got new 2023 suspension installed on mine. Pike Ultimate 140mm and Deluxe Ultimate out back. Custom Slik Graphics decals as well.
New 2023 Rockshox Pike Ultimate 140mm new 2023 Rockshox Deluxe Ultimate rear shock and new Slik Graphics custom metallic decals for both new pieces. Saved about a pound going from the old fork coiled Pike Select . 29 lbs 09 oz currently.

I know this is ‘21 model thread, but any comments about running a coil on the ‘22 alloy frame?

New toy Shorter travel trail bike for the collection Specialized Stumpjumper Alloy Ohlins suspension Magura brakes. Drivetrain upgrades coming
Before the fork swop. M2 is going to another bike bumped to 170. This one will be running a RXF36 EVO with a 150mm M2 air spring,

The frame is too linear it’s made for “small” air shock

I think it may be… Will see how it goes.
Would be interesting to try with a Cascade link or I will swop with an air shock…
This is my backup bike anyway.

It works works great with a coil shock with hydraulic bottom out control e.g ext, 2023 RS Super Deluxe. Not sure about the öhlins. You could still try a cane creek Progressive Spring if you have issues.

Was thinking of the same as an option… progressive spring and/or the Cascade link.
All about messing around and having fun…
My other bike is the really dialed, sensible bruiser bike…

Concur - ext Storia is really good on the StEvo

Anyone have any long-term opinions on 34 vs. 36 on the stumpy? I sold my Epic Evo and my stumpy evo and can either make a super light Stumpy or an “stump-duro” … main difference there is wheels and fork. the wheels are pretty minimally different, but I’m a bit torn on a 140 34 or a 150 36….as time has gone on I’ve found myself caring less about weight, and seems like said and done I’d be at 1.5 lbs different.

This would be my “most days” bike at an aggressive 170 lbs rider. I also plan to get a DH/park bike for that duty… but would not plan to pedal that one too much.

Split the difference and get a Pike. I have the 23 Pike Ultimate 140 on mine. Amazing fork.

If I was starting from scratch I might, but I got the 36 and the 34 in the garage Smile

150mm 36 is the answer.

This.

Fox 36 at 150 is the perfect fork for this bike, so plush, should have been on the OEM build but I guess they wanted more distance between the SJ and the SJ EVO. The Fox 34 is easily overwhelmed.

i 100 percent agree. i have a factory 36 grip 2 on my sj and its the best thing ive done to the bike so far.

well, fox 36 is great but on regular SJ ?
I have doubts, if you put it then rear shock will be easily overwhelmed. IMO, fox 34 with DPS shock suits this bike perfectly for general trail riding, if you lack suspension then SJ EVO is probably a better bike for you.
Personally I would put pike 140, but I have an enduro bike so I ride my stumpy only for local flow trails.
