What do I hate Presta so much ?

I've been riding since the 90s on Schrader. My new bike came w/ Presta and I hate it. Shop guys seem to be of the opposite opinion and I just don't get it. Change my mind...

I personally hate Schrader valves with a passion; they are just super clunky PITAs. But, I'm not here to change your mind. I could seriously not care less about your valve choice. Stans makes a Schrader tubeless valve stem, so you're covered.

Presta valves means a smaller hole drilled into the rim which would be less weak at that point but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Maybe it'll help if you treat yourself to some dice or 8 ball dust caps to go on them. tup

It’s cheap enough to carry spare valve stems. And they’re very quick and easy to change once they start to go bad. Everything out there is set up for presta; rims, spare tubes, pumps, etc. I wouldn’t change to schrader.

you'd think with the trend of wider rims that shrader would make a comeback. If i had a choice i'd go to shrader.

I agree, most cores are very fragile and if you tweak your pump while adding air they get bent easily.
You can pick up a 100ct of valve cores on Amazon for next to nothing, so I don’t stress about it too much.

Presta pisses me off too, always snapping inner cores when in a rush with the bike pump or you either open it too much or too little and have to take the pump back off to adjust it so you can get air in the tyre or snap the end off. I've had a few situations before when I've broke them out in the trail when fiddling with pressure and the tyre pisses all the air out meaning a long walk back. Some are better than others but most usually end up with the inner thread bent after a while from over loosening and fitting a hand pump inflating in a rush, and eventually it just snaps.

#1 clean your bike. clean the valve , apply a small amount of lube to the presta tip so that its easy to spin.

#2 its stronger. on a mnt bike that matters so dont go hacking a bigger hole because you cant clean or apply lube.

#3 dont be a freaking godzilla when pumping your tire. avoid using small hand pumps as that increases chances of breaking the valve. set tire pressure with floor pump before each ride. itll ensure you have consistency ride to ride and therefore you crash less due to odd bike set up.

#4 nobody can tell me that they have been to rough on a shrader valve and it not crack and rip off the tube. both valves are fragile. bikes in general are fragile, you toss the bike one way and the derailleur snapps, you hit a rock to hard the wheel explodes. IF YOUR ROUGH WITH THE VALVE IT WILL BREAK JUST LIKE ANYTHING ELSE. stop sucking at bike repair and learn something or just stay stale and stagnant your whole life!

Jesus what an arrogant post... Presta is not stronger, the rim may be stronger due to a smaller hole but I have broken numerous Presta valves and never 'ripped' or broken a Schrader valve ever. Sometimes you are in a rush and stuff breaks.... Then your comment on riding old boring stuff forever, stuck with old technology....that's why you cruise around in a MK IV? Lmao telling people they suck at bike repair and maintenance, for all you know some of us could be better bike mechanics than you, get off your high horse and learn some respect.

Bigger hole in the rim for shrader is a bigger weak point in the rim. Presta valves are just as reliable as shrader. Breaking off or bending the valve core is user error. We have enough issues with bike standards as it is and we don't need two competing valve stems. There's nothing wrong with presta so there's no reason to flip everything to shrader. If there were enherent issues with presta we would have moved away from them a long time ago.

If you really want shrader it takes about 2mins to drill your valve holes a little larger. Have at it and enjoy.

Who cares which valve, it's a valve. Schrader isn't old or boring same as Presta isn't a big leap in technological advancement.

I'll take whatever is fitted and am fully aware of the difference just like most riders. We all break valves whichever ones they are, sometimes through simple wear and tear, sh#t happens!

Bobo is preaching to the choir and at the end of the day it's still just a valve.

Schrader is great, no need to unscrew a little shitty, inner piece and then put air in....schrader is always ready.
Plus, you can put air in at any gas station using their air compressors, without having to bring a convertor with you.

Lightness and small rim hole (that's what she said) seems to be the only positive thing about presta.

Calling the presta valve new might be a stretch. Based on a quick google search it’s likely older than most anyone on these forums.
