Lapierre's 2011 Mountain Bikes

Jun 28, 2010
by Mike Levy
While the new DH platform and it's unique suspension is surely exciting, there were other new bikes to be seen at the 2011 Lapierre launch in Chatel, France. Below you'll find pictures and info on their brand new dirt jump and general trouble making Rapt bike, as well as the refined Spicy enduro and Froggy freeride bikes. Enjoy!

2011 LAPIERRE FROGGY 318
"Designed to shred all day in the park and send it on your local super booters"

The Froggy is Lapierre's heavy hitting freeride bike that is designed to shred all day in the park and send it on your local super booters, all while being able to get back to the top under its own power... if it comes down to it. There will be two models to pick from: the dual ring 318 pictured here, and a high end 518 that uses Fox's new 180 mm travel single crown fork and a single ring and chain guide.

Up front you'll find a big 1.5" headtube and a long travel single crown fork

2011 Lapierre Spicy 516

2011 Lapierre Spicy 516

In my opinion the sharpest looking bike at the launch was the 2011 Spicy 516. This enduro/all-mountain machine has some great lines and graphics to match. Think of the Spicy as a scaled down Froggy that still likes to get a little crazy if you happen to come across some gnarly terrain while out on your all day adventure. The entire Spicy range (there are four models) feature 160 mm of air sprung travel and a burly 12 x 142 mm rear quick release thru-axle. The top end Spicy 916 uses a slightly lighter Supreme 6 alloy front triangle combined with a fancy carbon rear end that shaves weight from the other models' standard aluminum frames.

Awesome graphics are found throughout the entire range

2011 Lapierre Spicy details:

  • Refined for 2011
  • 160 mm of rear wheel travel
  • Uses Lapierre's OST suspension system
  • Internal cable routing for telescoping post

2011 Lapierre Rapt

photo
New for 2011 is the Rapt series of jump bikes. This is the 2.2

The Rapt series of dirt jump and trouble making bikes is entirely new for Lapierre in 2011. The Rapt series consists of four models, two aluminum bikes and steel framed bikes, one of each having gears and the other being single speed. All four models come with both front and rear brakes which makes them more versatile than a single braked bike. Throw on some mountain tires and hit the trails! The Rapt 2.1 and 2.2 bikes both use the same integrated seat clamp that is found on the impressive new DH frame.

2011 Lapierre Rapt details:

  • New series for 2011
  • Two aluminum models: Rapt 2.1 and the Rapt 2.2 (pictured)
  • Two steel models: Rapt 1.1 and the Rapt 2.2
  • Frame only option
  • Aluminum frames use Lapierre's ABS dropout system to tension the chain
  • Steel frames feature horizontal dropouts
  • All models feature ISCG-05 chain guide tabs
  • All models have derailleur hangers

that Rapt looks like its got some Serious 4X potential

The colors were great in all the pictures. I liked the sag meter and the nifty carbon derailleur guard. Great write up, all together i loved it.

As for the 2011 range of bikes, what can be said these machines are absolutley unreal, design wise, fabrication wise, and more importantly the attention to detail, and finishing is second to none,i'm officially a convert,in my humble opinion Lapierre is one of the world leaders on the bike scene now, from the Black DH,to the new Pendbox team only rig. This is a company in full flight, who could easily go to the top DH wise,Blenky and this new bike look dangerous
so watch out world.

Love the Spicy, awesome look and colors.
  • 30
These bikes are amazing. I wonder whether there is any other company that pays so much attention to cable routing. Totaly sweet!

But... where's Zesty?
  • 10
great indeed! 2010 Zesty 714 was one of the best looking bikes of 2010! It well deserved to be in Dirt 100. If my bike gets broken, then it will be a tight fight for me: Zesty vs Blur LT2 Wink
  • 30
Absolutely Beautiful! All of those bikes rock!
But how about some prices and weights???
  • 10
Great looking bikes. But i wonder if the pictured Spicy 516 is the same version you can buy ? I though Kashima coated Fox forks are only available as after market versions, not OEM.
  • 10
if only we could get lapierre in the states, i would grab that awesome spicy 516. and the rapt is really looking nice, i just hope that they come out with a dual-suspension 4x bike
  • 11
Since the Spicy's first came out i've loved the loox of there V.P.P all mountain ability,it kind of fooled me at first when i read they're V.P.P bikes. But Lapierres clever design and attention to detail made me look a few more times before i saw it was a V.P.P bike, and it is staring you right there in the face. The (virtual)chainstay is the lower link, the fixed rear triangle is at the rear dropout which extends the length of the stay, which is then joined to a swing link mounted to the top tube, which is why it reminded so many people of V.P.P bikes like V.P Frees, and Nomads,Socoms anything like that, and now they all know why they remind them of V.P.P bikes, and that's cos Froggy's,Zesty's and Spicey's are all virtual pivot point bikes,Lapierre told me.Cool

Does anybody knows anything about the 914?
  • 10
good looking stuff... we can sell the stuff (through SBS) but here in the states, nobody knows about the brand. well, not enough to actually pull the trigger on something.
  • 20
Great job LaPierre! Built like tanks with style and lot's of attention to detail.
  • 20
Good to see they've went for a double and bash on the Spicy, they missed a trick last year by sticking with a triple.
  • 41

  • 54

  • 62

liking the spicy and froggy, but the rapt is more 4x-like than dirt jumping (and tries too hard with the headset spacers)
  • 31
how is it more 4X? it's a singlespeed
  • 21
I should've played the kid from Toy Story ’cause I play with my Woody when I have a Buzz.
  • 35
its funny that you guys are mentioning that the froggy looks like santa cruz bikes. They are known to steal other peoples designs... which is EXACTLY the reason they redesigned a bike that already worked badass (minus their notorious creaking adjustable headsets). Not having a market in the US is a MAJOR downfall to lapierre and they realized it wasn't a good ordeal... as their design was losing them mega money (the us is a MASSIVE bike industry.. and to leave it aside.. just to hack a patent is beyond me. In other words... they probably did copy santa cruz with a lot of the specs... even if it's a tad diff. (that's what they did for the old dh frame... they hacked vpp's patented system, modified it a bit and called it their own... in other words straight ass stealing and manipulating a closed patent design). Beautiful bikes... but the copying American companies without permission kinda ticks me off... (since us Americans actually follow other countries copyright laws... unlike Russia, Japan, China, and France)

Now, don't get me wrong, this are absolutely stunning bikes, and they probably ride just as good. Lapierre is obviously trying since they changed their design to something not so patented
  • 10
so the OST suspension system is a VPP design? Just wondering.
  • 11
I have absolutely no clue. Someone should chime in about it. I believe it was just their current (or well, now replaced) DH bike design. I think they learned their lesson. Losing hundreds of thousands of dollars to hack a design probably didn't seem too wise to them. I doubt they would make the same mistake twice. I bet they designed that list bike before looking at patents to make sure they didn't copy anything... then said "oops". If they did the hack on purpose... well, that is pretty lame in the world of mountain bikes. Thought we were bigger than that.

there all so nice wish i had one ! Salute
  • 20
 Froggy and spicy look amazing.
  • 10
Love all this bikes, but the Lapierre Rapt is really good, and really nice frame too.

 sick intergrated seat clamp design
  • 10
These guys are pumpin out some sick looking bikes. Really liking the Froggy and the Rapt
  • 32
Lots of Lapierre coverage here lately. But, WILL WE SEE THEM IN THE STATES? (Are they gonna pay Specialized?)
  • 20
they are working on it by the looks of things. Couple of big name riders racing with them getting some awesome results. Only a matter of time until they will break into the US market.
  • 10
I've always loved their frames. So clean...
  • 10
i liked the "Made in Italy" on the brake cable housing
thats how you know its fancy
  • 10
I love the frogs all over the place, and the green... They're Great!!!
  • 31
 beatiful shit!
  • 11
sick bikes. seem like they are so light, but at the same time can handle some rough riding
  • 10
Again, any idea on weights and prices??? ^v^
  • 23
Weights don't mean much (I'll probably get shot for saying that but I don't care) and as for prices, look at last years models and stick an extra 100 on it (or 200 if you're in the UK).
  • 10
 The Rapt looks super nice
  • 21
these are sick, i am liking the froggy 318
  • 20
 great designBig Grin

  • 10
that rapt is so nice, really linking the ideas from lapierre
  • 10
Super nice bikes but i dont like the 12X142 axel on the froggy and spicy

  • 10
 froggy is so good
  • 10
 mmmm spicyyyyy
  • 10
 i want them all!
  • 10
 Mmmmm spicy!
  • 10
 rapt be lookin cool
  • 23
The Spicy is a contender for the "Nomad Killer" title!
  • 20
Repent heretic!!! at the same time Santa Cruz could learn a lot from La Pierre's cable routing. Perhaps it is better on new models, but my Nomad just sucks in this subject, especialy the front mech cable guiding: it's an outrage...
  • 33
I think the routing on my Nomad C is perfect. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see an extra cable guide on the Lapierre for a dropper post. For shame.
  • 22
 You're just missing something....

"•Internal cable routing for telescoping post"
  • 33
My bad. I still prefer the Nomad's external full-housing cable routing.
  • 13
 zipties fix all Smile

They probably didn't do exterior cable routing to make it less of a red flag for copyright infringement... eek. lol (just joking... but I could see it happening lol... the french are very funny people like that...)
  • 12
Love those spacers on the Rapt
  • 13
amazing attention to detail, graphics are a bit much but, they come off Smile
  • 13
them lapierres look nice but somewhat delicate at the same time. Blank Stare
  • 13
Has anyone noticed they don't have pedals
  • 13
 omg loved the hardtail
  • 14
 me wanty the rapt... now...!
  • 25
 GT anyone?
