Win a Spot to Compete at X Games - Red Bull Phenom

by FMB World Tour
Red Bull Phenom, have you heard of it? Red Bull Phenom is the chance for upcoming athletes to become the next phenomenon of their discipline. Red Bull Phenom is open to bmx riders, skateboarders and mountain bikers. For mountain bikers their chance is at the upcoming X Games Munich Mountain Bike Slopestyle event (June 30th). Six finalists will be chosen by video applications and the FMB World Tour 52 Week Seeding List. These six exceptional talents will ride the X Games Munich Slopestyle course on the day of the official finals in a separate event, the Red Bull Phenom!

Red Bull Phenom is a competition that invites young action sports athletes to submit a 60 second video of themselves pulling off their best moves in their chosen discipline — skate street, BMX street and mountain bike slopestyle. The videos will then be judged on talent, performance and style by a team of "super judges" who are all icons in their sports — Skate legend Steve Caballero, BMX's Mike "Rooftop" Escamilla, and freestyle mountain bike pioneer Richie Schley. Find more informations and Q&A with the judges here.

The six finalists per discipline will receive a once-in-a-lifetime all-expenses paid trip to the X Games where they will compete against each other, in a class of their own, for a chance to have their own video profile produced by Red Bull. For mountain bike slopestyle riders, this will be to the X Games in Munich in June, while BMX street and skate street competitors will go to the X Games in Los Angeles, USA in August.

MTB slopestyle submission entries are open from April 8th to May 27th. The event takes place at 30th June in Munich.

The X Games Munich Mountain Bike Slopestyle will be the first ever mountain bike slopestyle event in X Games history. Moreover, this contest is the first and only European Diamond event on the FMB World Tour 2013 calendar. This means that the crème-de-la-crème of the world’s slopestyle elite will be there with high hopes of winning a medal.

Martin S derstrom from SWE performs at the Red Bull Bergline in Winterberg Germany on Mai19th 2012

However, for all the aspiring young riders, there is a separate competition called 'Red Bull Phenom', taking place between the official slopestyle qualifications and finals on Sunday June 30th. Red Bull Phenom finalists will ride the X Games Munich slopestyle course in the Olympic Park Munich for the chance to win their very own Red Bull Media House produced highlight clip and the title of Red Bull Phenom 2013.

So, how can you apply to compete at Red Bull Phenom? It’s quite simple! There are six starting places for young talents aged 15-19 who haven’t attended a Diamond event. Three riders will be chosen via video application. The other three will be invited, based on the FMB World Tour 52 Week Seeding list. The 52 Week Seeding List consists of the top 3 results of all licensed athletes that participated in FMB World Tour events in the last 52 weeks. The top ranked FMB World Tour athletes aged 15-19, who have not yet attended a Diamond event will be invited to Red Bull Phenom.

How to become a finalist?

Option 1: Submit a 60 second video application via www.redbullphenom.com (Video submission deadline: May 27 (10:00am CET), 2013)

Option 2: Collect FMB World Tour ranking points by competing at FMB World Tour events in order to move up the 52 Week Seeding lists (http://www.fmbworldtour.com/en/rankings/52-weeks-seeding-list.html). (The final selection from the 52 Week Seeding list will be taken after SKS Slopestyle and Red Bull Berg Line on May 20th)

I'd like to see a competition where people could win an entry to the Redbull Rampage. And then just wait for some truly spectacular bails.

I love the idea for this kind of competition, but think the age restrictions are kind of lame. What about someone who is 20 who shreds? What about the kid who is 14? By definition phenom is a person who is outstandingly talented or admired; a star. Doesn't mention anything in the good old Webster's about being 15-19...
  • 5 1
 I agree. That's a small stupid gap

It gets harder and harder every year for any of us in the Southern Hemisphere to make it into the big contest scene with everything being invite only and based off the '52 week seeding list'... Now we're too old to have a chance to try for what would be the best leg-up possible... I miss the time there was a chance for everyone to qualify for everything as long as you registered in time...
  • 1 1
I think they did that because they want to have that represented as like a rookie, they must think it would look better if it was a "young" guy. That is just my take on it. Still a very stupid rule though

I can't wait to send in my entry. I will put all my biggest jumps together in one 60 second of epicness ending with my most impressive finalie of me hitting the 2ft drop on my local trail, xgame here I come!!!

It might be fun to do a humorous video for them... curb drop to beer can smash, wheelie (rad!), and maybe a few otbs into hay bales.
  • 7 2
This would be cool if there were more bronze and silver FMB tour stops in Canada and US before the deadline... How are we supposed to get points to qualify for this if we cant afford to fly to europe for events.
