I don’t care how many downvotes I get, but I’m kinda getting tired of this song, just post a final one on the 24th and we can all get a laugh instead of having already heard the first ~96% of the song, still great though
Yeah. 2 months ago bought a pair of der Baron 2.4. Only one could hardly seal (leaked for 3 days on full circumference). Second one could not seal for two weeks, then I was pissed of and inflated it do 3bar - it would blew of the rim.
Had the same problem with a Der Kaiser tire from conti. Contact their customer support, they sent me a replacement and sealant upon request. New tire is running great. You probably got a bad batch.
@unkindthrower: The old versions were hard to seal up indeed. This changed in 2018 I think. I've never had a Conti not sealing right away.
I have been running this new Apex downhill version for a month now. Cannot fault it. In 29'' it's 1250gr. which is ok knowing that you'll have a hard time pinchflatting this bad boy. Traction is insane too! It's even softer than the other Kaiser Projekt I'm running on the rear.
From how I understand that problem, it is best to give Conti tires a bit of a wash from the inside before you set them up tubeless, as due to the production process there is a residue of an anti-adhesive chemcial left.
Hey Conti you probably could have offered up a couple of these kits for the clickbait. Come on PB hold these account reps feet to the fire and get us more free stuff.
I had one set of trailkings that must have more layers of stan's then original conti rubber due to near continuous sidewall leaks that even stan's never sealed permanently. Finally got rid of the that set this summer. Generally like the tires and lineup, just quality control seems a little suspect at times based on the forums comments.
It doesn't mention wheelsize anywhere so I expect you're being asked what size you need when you win. I don't see why they would deny you the 26" size if that's what you need.
Heck, I may even sign up for this and go full 26". 26" tires 26" head circumference for the beanie 26" socks 26" valve stems for the tubeless kit
Someone should come up with tires that come in 10meter rolls that you cut to your preferred size and tie up the wires.
Lbs would than carry rim profile benders and make you the size you NEED!
Perfect tailored wheelsize every time.
Imagine all the world cup interviews and wheelsize spyshots....
@Thema: The day that these come out, I'm going to build my own mountain-caterpillar. I've seen they've got amazing roll-over. No dig no ride you say? Hold my latte...
Enter to win some truly crappy tires (and some other swag). At a time when most tubeless tires seat up easy, don't leak, take a fair amount of abuse and have decent ride quality, Conti has missed the boat. None of their tires seat well, they all leak, most of them are fragile and the ones that aren't have horrible ride quality.
Even Schwalbe seems to have figured out how to make decent tires these days. Shame that a company that makes such nice road tires (tubed, tubeless and sew-ups) and motor vehicle tires can't seem to put a good mountain bike tire together.
you're definitely referring to the old pre-2018/19 Conti tires. They redesigned all of them and they seat with a floor pump and no sealant now. Also got lighter and much less stiff sidewalls
Their previous generation of mountain tires had tons of quality issues but the redesigned ones have been pretty solid. I had a few pairs of the old ones and they stood behind the warranty and always replaced for me if I experienced issues. Haven't had any complaints on the new ones. No company is perfect, Maxxis and Schwalbe have had known production issues in the past. What matters is how they stand behind their product when issues do arise. Have you tried the redesigned ones?
@ObyGobyWanoby: Not yet. A few failures kind of burned me. Yeah, they stood by their product, but walking into a bike shop with a tire and just getting handed a new one because the problem is so pervasive got old.
Granted, I'm extra rough on tires, but Maxxis Double Down and WTB Tough casing tires ride well and take a serious, serious beating. Conti doesn't offer any tires with that level of strength except the Der Kaiser Projects which do ride like wooden wagon wheels.
@peleton7: Protection/Apex is their "enduro" style casing, the same casing used in the Kaiser. You can get the Baron and the Trail King in that casing if you want another tread pattern. They also have full on dual-ply dh casing tires if the occasion calls for it. I admit to a slight bias from my days wrenching in a shop... we had a great relationship with the Conti sales rep. But I'd be praising their redesigned tires regardless of the bias, they work really well.
