Evie Richards kicked off the season with a win in the first XCC of the year in Mairiporã. She followed that result up with a top-10 in the XCO. The following weekend in Araxá, she looked to be in contention for another top result in XCC before a last lap crash on the jumps just outside of view from the cameras.
She
said after the race that she was "Up there fighting for a podium until the final jump where I went in far too hot. Luckily no serious damage just battered and bruised. We go again tomorrow." She took to the start line on Sunday in the longer distance race and finished in 8th place, one spot higher than she did at the first round. She said after the race that she "felt pretty nervous on the descents after yesterday's big get down and the body also felt battered so I’ll take that."
Today, she
shared that she has been dealing with concussion symptoms since Brazil. She says she is now working with British Cycling to get better and will be missing out on Europeans to recover.
| Unfortunately I have been dealing with concussion since Brazil. In true Evie style I tried to crack on and say I was fine but inside I knew I wasn’t. I’m working with British cycling to get better, my head needs time to heal and it’s a very frustrating process. I will not race Europeans, but I’ll be back soon.—Evie Richards |
We wish Richards all the best with her recovery and hope to see her fully healthy and back on the start line soon.
Hope to see Evie back in action soon.
