Evie Richards Dealing with Concussion Symptoms After Araxá XC World Cup

Evie Richards already has an XCC win and one of the favourites for a repeat here in Araxa.

Evie Richards kicked off the season with a win in the first XCC of the year in Mairiporã. She followed that result up with a top-10 in the XCO. The following weekend in Araxá, she looked to be in contention for another top result in XCC before a last lap crash on the jumps just outside of view from the cameras.

She said after the race that she was "Up there fighting for a podium until the final jump where I went in far too hot. Luckily no serious damage just battered and bruised. We go again tomorrow." She took to the start line on Sunday in the longer distance race and finished in 8th place, one spot higher than she did at the first round. She said after the race that she "felt pretty nervous on the descents after yesterday's big get down and the body also felt battered so I’ll take that."

Today, she shared that she has been dealing with concussion symptoms since Brazil. She says she is now working with British Cycling to get better and will be missing out on Europeans to recover.

bigquotesUnfortunately I have been dealing with concussion since Brazil. In true Evie style I tried to crack on and say I was fine but inside I knew I wasn’t. I’m working with British cycling to get better, my head needs time to heal and it’s a very frustrating process. I will not race Europeans, but I’ll be back soon.Evie Richards

We wish Richards all the best with her recovery and hope to see her fully healthy and back on the start line soon.

The jumps that they made such a big deal out of and seemed to show every lap... and a crash taking out one of the top contenders was somehow missed? I know you can't predict the future and they were probably broadcasting the leader at that point in time, but surely they had footage that we could have seen as a replay? We got extensive pointless coverage of Loana abandoning.
Hope to see Evie back in action soon.

My recollection is that they were filming the flowier/jumpier sections from moving cameras (I think even from a pick up truck). Not at all hard to imagine that the camera was being reset when this happened.

Why do you need to see it?

I for one don't want to see it.

I would be interested to know if it was obvious that she bashed her head, and then people let her race after that.

@dglobulator: Its not some morbid curiousity about wanting to watch someone in pain. But during the race (even if it was a replay that we went back to once they reaslised she was no longer with the group) it is quite a key part of the story of the event. We got multiple replays of Koretsky's chain drop, this was almost as critical to the race/season.

Lots of love for Evie she is such a strong rider so hopefully she fully recovers from it and takes the time to ensure she is fully sorted before jumping back into it.

Evie is super special. Super gifted and a brilliant mind. I don't mind if she takes all the time in the world to protect her great gift. Evie will be back!

I think they wear that crush waffle design impact helmet, the one that came out with a strong headline "you will not get a concussion in this helmet"...forgot the name.

Wavecel??? No helmet can stop concussion, and nobody would market one saying that......

@Starch-Anton: Well of course not; everyone knows that it can't stop a concussion every time. But in 98.8 percent of impacts it would prevent a concussion.... 48x more effective than a traditional eps helmet even! Can't imagine them ever moving away from such refined tech especially on their high end helmets...
