Five Ten Shoes - Scoping The 2009 Goods

I just went to the Action Sports Retailer Convention in San Diego California and while on patrol- I encountered the FIVE TEN booth. I introduced myself and asked- CAN I SEE THE LINE? They welcomed me in and here is a sneak photo peak at the upcoming products for next season.Kevin Newell was hyped to show me the new goodies. I recently made the switch from the old skate shoe to a pair of Five Ten Impacts and I immediately tell my story on how I was lead to Five Ten by the 'real' racers last year. Explaining to Kevin that after a hard one mile rip at a race that when I crossed the finish line and stopped, my feet cramped up. As I was ripping my shoes off to massage them, Kim Eakin of the Bare Naked/Cannondale team walked over to me and casually said "Mike, your addicted to racing already- just go get some Five Ten's and it will be the best investment in your racing". I replied "Does it really make that much of a difference?" He responds with a smile and says "I'm on the podium, are you?" SOLD! I sought out a pair.

So, when I saw the Five Ten booth at ASR (its mainly a Skate and Swimsuit crowd) I gotta say- I got jazzed.

Ladies, you finally get a shoe, the new Women's Karver is fit specific to your feet. Priced at $109 MSRP and release is expected late March to Early April 2009.

 The skate shoe version is nice, and so is Sam Hills one. Kovarik and Rennies Signature ones are a bit too 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' for my liking, especially rennies!

 Really, i have a pair, 3 years old, and they still are the best shoe i have ever worn for riding, hands down.

 And everytime I've seen Nato he has his on, riding or not so they are well used! I also have a pair that have now done 2 seasons, and still going strong. You can't believe how they stick to the pedals until you've tried them.

 First of all. I ride in this years high top 5.10's and love them. I've tried the low tops and didn't like them. They chafe my heels when hiking uphill, and do not provide as much protection as the high tops. The high tops are not obtrusive at all, and are unbelievable comfortable. My only complaint is the lack of breath ability. These new models look even less breathable, and ugly.

 i prefer sams new colour way , rennies high tops might make people look like jigalos with leather look a like boots. and the low ankle ones look abit like they should be velcrow ! so nah not really going to be the best seller i rekon. Buts sams are wiked !

 Holy cockandballs! Can Rennie's shoe get any uglier! I think I'll stick with my 08 Impact 2's.

 I like KARVER because it has a flap to cover the shoeslaces as to prevent the outside elements getting into the shoes, especially the low cut skateshoe style. I wish they would do the same thing to the high cut models. That's why I am still wearing hiking shoes with flaps on top.

 Good to see a female version and it's not pink! Great!
I'm intersted what they've changed on shape though and what those graphics are (not flowers hopefully!)
But I got persuaded to buy the mens versions -all black- this season and although they look huge on my pins they sure do stick to your pedals and protect your ankle.
Anyway they look best when covered in Whistler dust- which mine are!

 Well, there's a good portion of them that are light purple - just as bad as pink in my opinion! I would imagine they made the heel narrower and possibly the toes since that's how girls feet differ from men's, but that's just a guess. Maybe we can colour over the purple bits and make it a decent looking shoe!

 i remember last time they showed us pairs of the pro shoe's at this stage and they ended up changing by the start of the next season...
rennies shoes look like michael jordan hightops in 5.10 style... wonder how they'd go on the basketball court?? Smile
hopefully they bring out a decent pair of plain ones.
i likie the high inside ankle though... be good on your cranks...

 i have a pair of the 1st gen impact high tops that have two seasons on them. the soles are getting thin in the front but still stick well. the insides are still looking good. i see a lot of the gen II impacts around and they all have seams failing all over them. Thats too bad because 5 10's customer service dept. is the worst I have ever dealt with. And that is what separates the industry leaders from the wanna be's. think of the customer first. the first gen rennies would be a good choice since there are not many seams. why don't they have an impact plate built into the ankle area. Duh!! what are these shoes used for?

 The Freerider and Sam Hill joints are pretty cool. The female ones don't look to bad either. The rest just look too crazy. I guess as long as they all have the signature rock climbing soles, who cares, right? Right?

 I just bought the ladies karver direct from five ten and I'm very excited about them. I'm a very small girl (5'2") and finding appropriate shoes has always been a p.i.a., plus I think they look really cool.

 seems like its too little too late for the hill colour scheme, unless he rides for monster as an individual sponsor in 09. although they still look pretty sick. any word on if they got rid of the ordinary black on black?

 Five Ten makes rad cycling shoes that work really well but I hope they don't go getting all crazy with graphix and junk. Simple is good!

 I bet they still don't do them in UK Size 14 (that's US size 15 if you're wondering), though.

 graphics are cool! they just need choice of graphics and colours. the best graphics are commencal for their bikes and race kits! and as a graphic designer i know what im talkin bout Wink

 just bought my black on blacks and they put my vans to shame. killer sticky. it's like having clipless but when you fall your feet just pop off (i could never get used to the whole locked in thing)

 I should probably have mentioned it in my previous post, but I emailed Five Ten asking whether they had any plans to manufacture their MTB shoes in US Size 14 and upwards, and the response I got was:

"Hello

Sorry but the bigger size is 13us
