Anita Gehrig and Patrick Lüthi are crowned the Swiss Enduro Mountain Bike Champions 2023 with a thrilling finish at SES Round 5 in Aletsch-Arena.
The Mountain Bike Swiss Enduro Championships 2023 took the breathtaking Aletsch-Arena by storm. It was a spectacular event filled with heart-pounding action, epic terrain, and fantastic weather. Over 14 kilometers of technical trails set the stage for an unforgettable showdown among Switzerland's top mountain biking talent.
In the highly anticipated men's competition, all eyes were on Basil Weber, the reigning champion from 2022, as he faced off against fierce contenders Patrick Lüthi, Tim Bratschi, and the invincible Gusti Wildhaber, who made an inspiring return to the race just four weeks after a collarbone injury.
World Cup rider Patrick Lüthi emerged as a dominant force by securing victories on Stages 1, 2, and 4.
However, Gusti Wildhaber showcased his resilience and prowess by claiming victory on Stage 3.
After a snapped chain on Stage 1 and a big crash on Stage 4, the podium was out of reach for Weber.
As the dust settled and the excitement reached its peak, the final results of the men's category were unveiled:
1. Patrick Lüthi: 26:56:00
2. Gustav Wildhaber: +00:08:94
3. Tim Bratschi: +00:25:11
Lüthi's exceptional performance throughout the day secured him the prestigious title of Swiss Enduro Mountain Bike Champion for 2023. Wildhaber's remarkable comeback and Bratschi's outstanding form earned them well-deserved spots on the podium.
In the women's category, a fierce battle unfolded among top contenders, including Series Leader Delia Da Mocogno, ex-World Cup racers Anita and Caro Gehrig, and the consistently solid Ysaline Van Kampen.
Anita Gehrig displayed her prowess by clinching victories on Stages 1, 2, and 4.
Whilst Caro Gehrig claimed victory on Stage 3.
Ysaline Van Kampen demonstrated her unwavering skill and consistency throughout the competition.
Delia couldn’t quite find the rhythm on the four technical and physical stages and ended up in the top 3 only on Stage 2.
The women's podium ended up as follows:
1. Anita Gehrig: 33:14.76
2. Caro Gehrig: +0:07.65
3. Ysaline Van Kampen: +0:26.63
Anita Gehrig's impressive performance earned her the coveted title of Swiss Enduro Mountain Bike Champion in the women's category for 2023, with her twin sister Caro Gehrig ending up second and Ysaline Van Kampen third.
The Mountain Bike Swiss Enduro Championships 2023 will be remembered for it’s long, rough and physical stages.
And the determination of Switzerland's mountain biking community.
Congratulations to all the riders who participated and made this year's competition an unforgettable experience.
We now head to the sixth round of the 2023 SES season in Lötschental. See you there!
Downhill in a park (with regular maintenance) or Crosscountry with a few short downhill parts isnt an issue. The impact of aggressive racing is limited.
I am also not saying, that freeride or enduro is an issue.
But Enduro Racing normally comes with several stages, often on natural hiking trails. Not one track, but several tracks will be ridden in „race mode“. Aggressive breaking before the corners do some damage.
