Mons Royale Dual Slalom - Crankworx Rotorua

After some early success by the speed contingent, it was style-master Martin Söderström taking home 1st in the Mons Royale Dual Speed & Style at Crankworx Rotorua.

Hometown BMXer Joe Simpson beat out some stiff competition to make it to the final and take 2nd. The local Specialized employee took a terrifying slam as he drifted in the air on a 360 table and made contact with Martin. Thankfully he walked it off, with the New Zealand crowd cheering him on.

In 3rd it was Adrien Loron just beating out Kyle Strait and getting some redemption after last night's loss to him in the Pump Track.

Reducing martin to just being stylish is kinda underselling his abilities. Hes crazy fast especially on pumptracks and these dual slalom/speed and style courses!

indeed, he used to enter UCI 4x and 4x Pro Tour events on the regular. dude is an animal, and definitely the most qualified to win this. Congrats Martin, welcome back

I believe Crankworx may try to do a feed on their Facebook, but unfortunately it won't be live on Pinkbike. We'll have a full highlights video and photo epics from both events ASAP though!

He definitely got underscored slightly on his first run, but I personally don't think it would have changed the out come. his "super"flip maybe would have gotten a 50 or 60 at the most instead of a 40, it was not extended much more than a no footer. He seemed like he was being a bit of a sore loser, storming off camera after both runs.
