Jul 18, 2018
by Red Bull Bike

On a remote island in the high arctic, freeride mountain biker riders Darren Berrecloth, Carson Storch, Cam Zink and Tom van Steenbergen take on mountain bike lines unlike anything ridden to date. In this compilation of the best riding from the film, watch these elite athletes work to progress the sport of mountain biking in a previously unridden landscape.

The full film is available now.

Great edit. I was disappointed in the lack of riding in the full film, though. This should have been billed an environmental film about climate change with some hits mixed in.

I think Travis Rice has the best mixture of action and story telling. In mtb world this has to be Where The Trail Ends.

It did need more riding i still enjoyed it tho

Glad to see people are working hard to save such a desolate wasteland.

@mentalhead: Where the Trail Ends is am attemp of creating something similar to Art of Flight but with no sucess.

As wheelie7 said, the feeling this film left me was a great edit but lack of riding or action and, IMO, a boring film in so many ways. No disrispect for the riding or filmers who performed incredibly well but, the final result is just something I didn't ejoy as other MTB films, like, ie, Unreal

@norfiril: I completely agree with both of you about Norht of Nigthfall. But I wouldn't say the same for Where The Trail Ends. For me it's great by idea and great also riding and filming are done there. What I miss there is some green land. It's too much same landscape during the whole film, but that's different story. I like Unreal and everything Collective/Anthill are producing. Roam and Seasons are my all time favorites, in fact. They also have their stories well present by the way. I meant to say that WTE maybe shows the upper limit of how much of a story should be present without sacrificing the riding.

@norfiril: i fell asleep so that says something

 @andydhteam: you smoked too much?

Not to mention if you factor in slow mo here there's really only 1:30 of riding in this edit.

At least they were consistent with the hilariously terrible MTB music. I think I heard that on a Toyota commercial.

@norfiril: Art of Flight was released in 2011, they started shooting Where the Trail Ends in 2010 so yeah, hard to copy a movie that wasn't released yet. It was Darren Berrecloth putting together the first ever big mountain MTB film, which was announced very early on and despite your opinion, it was a huge success and its an instant classic according to a vast majority of the MTB industry.

But hey, don't let pesky facts get in the way.

@scott-townes: Never said it's a straight copy but an attemp of doing something similar. You realize they are filmed by the same company, right? And maybe you can tell they are two projects with a very similar approach. The Art of Flight was released 1 year after but started a year before as it is the continuation of That's It, That's All film.

Of course Where the Trail Ends is a great job but had not the same impact as Art of Flight and, for so many people, it's kind of boring.

Great quality filming and riding but the overall product is something that a lot of people didn't like as much as other videos. Just opinions, if you liked it it's great.

Cheers

I think the movie had some great insight into the arctic and the challenges it faces, that along with the pressure the riders are under and what they put themselves through for us to watch made for a pretty compelling movie in my opinion. Is it 35 minutes of shredding? No, is it a great mountain bike movie with some great riding, some environmental insight and personal struggle? Most definitely yes. I thought it was great.

@scott-townes: You are forgetting about the movie that started it all. "That's It That's All"

@redsled137: is the winner of today's "most uneducated response on the interwebb". Here is a stack of eco science, geology, biology text books as your prize. "Desolate wasteland".. Thaks for the lulz.

I still think ROAM is one of the best MTB movies ever

Very boring film. It's not 1998 anymore, slow-mo isn't cool.

@scott-townes: I don’t think the first big mtb film was in 2010. The collective was a lot earlier than that and I think the guys at nwd would also disagree.

even though Gamble and Deathgrip were shorter movies I’ve re watched them numerous times. North of nightfall I probably won’t re watch. Not a bad movie but it just didn’t get me stoked to ride like other movies have in the past.

You could tell from watching the film and riders reactions that they had much higher hopes for the dirt and riding there. They salvaged what they could out of the trip, but it was clear the terrain limited them from being able to really open it up. Cool story regardless, you never know unless you try and it's cool that these guys are pushing the limits and they are getting support to do it. Now go back to the Gobi desert, that shit looked off the chains!!!

Gobi Desert, oh yes! But I wouldn't call the biggest/longest lines of their lives as "salvaging". That looked like the most incredible experience.
  • 1 0
@scott-townes: I know I’ll get hate but I wouldn’t call that the biggest lines, longest I don’t know but biggest I don’t think so. Riding places that don’t have actual trails can be a day of salvaging.

Too bad about Zink's shoulder getting dislocated way out there and the other homie Tom Van got racked up too. His wife is gonna put her foot down soon.....he's got 2 little kids. A lot of dads have to do the 10 year break. I saw this in a theatre a couple of blocks from my house and Carson was there for a Q & A afterwards. They were giving away a Rampage VIP Experience to the best IG photo of the night from the film showing. One of the 200 or so people there SCORED!

A great flick and I love the fact that MTB and the filmmaking side of things are still being pushed in so many cool ways. Great to support this kind of growth and creativity.

 *lots of slow motion.

"THAT MUST HAVE BEEN EXPENSIVE!"
  • 1 0
It's only the location that makes it expensive.

Amazing looking place, with some sick riding, shame about the slow mo though

Wicked riding and cinematography, generic mtb soundtrack......

a sender is finally sending! great vid too, good job to all involved.
  • 1 0
Yup. If you go to a different planet to ride, you gotta send it like that.
