Man, the core BMX crowd is going to hate it. They're seriously starting to get angry about all the crossover to MTB. Brad Simms is straight up trolling them now, though. "The bigger the wheel, the bigger the paycheck."

Also: after that state of the industry Pinkbike article, it's pretty disturbing to think that BMX riders make even less money than pro MTB riders.

I guess wearing a helmet was part of his CANYON deal...

Bmx’ers are their own worst enemy and always have been. Any deviation from what’s cool or stepping outside of the box the industry has you in has always been trashed.

It seems like pro BMX riders do a really good job at marketing themselves towards the subset of bmx riders that have the least amount of money; 18-21 year olds. They won't market themselves towards kids that have parents willing to spend money.

@nyhc00: Not all BMXers! But yes, for the most part, we often punch ourselves in the privates quite a bit. Some of us are working to change that!

@championpsychlist: I’m 43, started racing bmx at 7 and did my last race at 22 with some gaps in there. Rode trails, street & park till just a few years ago so I’ve seen quite a bit with trends. Dudes my age (not all) get stuck in the FBM era and it’s laughable at their antiquated view on modern riding.

@nyhc00: So, so, yes to what you just said. I rode disc brakes when we were doing x-games/downhill BMX and it was almost incomprehensible until about two years ago. It (we) can be finicky. But I am sure you know all of the quirks!
