PRESS RELEASE: Industry Nine

The only constant is change. Like any advance forward, change is informed by any number of factors - determination, adaptation, survival instincts and thousands of trial and error sets. Every ride, every trail and every hour in the saddle is built into the DNA of Hydra and 101.

Hydra is designed with lightning quick 690 POE resulting in 0.52° between engagements offering the rider previously unheard of responsiveness. This near-instantaneous engagement allows the bike to claw up the most technical climbs, manual at a split seconds notice and rocket out of every corner.

The 101 hub stays true to our performance heritage here at Industry Nine. Featuring a dual phased-pawl drive mechanism accomplishing 90 POE and 4° engagement by way of a six pawl driver and 45 tooth drivering, 101 takes a no-nonsense approach in welcoming riders to Industry Nine.

Every rider who’s ever put a pedal down to apply power to an i9 hub has a part in bringing us to this point, a project over two and a half years in the making.

We're proud to now offer not only the next step in high engagement hub technology with Hydra, but to bring a quality, high engagement budget option to all riders with the 101 as well.

Evolve. Innovate. Ride. Repeat.

Came here looking for a factory tour of the fabrication process. Disappointed, it's just a marketing video from IN.

Thanks for saving us some minutes and data. Done skip.

Same. Came to see manufacturing, only saw 10 seconds of it. I'm a machinist, that's how I get my kicks.

And where was the manufacturing process?? Just marketing sh*t with bubbles Frown
  • 2 1
Lots of bubbles. And water. And a brief shot of machining oil. Disappointed.

I watched the video without sound:
''Millions of years ago the Hydras used to live under the water, then they came out of the water and became green hub-shells. Nevertheless in the beginning they showered frequently. When they grew up into full hubs they laced into wheels with a variety of green shaded spokes, probably by someone with very bad taste. They also have a lot of engagement points.''

I wonder how much I9 paid pinkbike in the last couple days for the infomercials and background publicity.

With I9eyes I gazed into the Onyx stone and it was full of Hope.

Well, the title sets you up for different expectations, but it is a really well done marketing video with some great behind the scenes shots. Kudos to the creative team that worked on it.

Best movie ever. They need another

I9 Hubs are super nice...not knocking them at all. However they are using the "old" tech compared to some newer styles of hubs.i.e.without the buzz. If you like the buzz...good on ya...Im know they ride great..just not my flavor..i like quiet.
Just wondering about the recent offerings from Onyx Racing and the new XTR hubs. The Onyx Hubs use a sprag clutch mechanism have instant clutch engagement during power stroke and instant disengagement when coasting. The XTR Hubs use Micro-Spline and Scylence Technology which is similar but not identical to the Onyx srpag clutch. Both have silent operation before, during and after clutch engagement....STEALTH mode!!! The Onyx hubs give me instant pedal power, never even a tiny delay like on some others I've tried without the sprag clutch. Buzz or no buzz and why? Any thoughts?
  • 2 1
Yes, interested in quiet hubs. Did the shimanos make it to market yet? Only hub i ever had fail on trail was a shimano tho..15 years ago
  • 1 2
@jrocksdh: not sure if XTR Shimano Hubs are out yet? The Onyx racing Hubs I've had for 2 seasons are phenomenal!!! Give em a look!

Interesting the examples you chose. Onyx is insanely heavy and most riders just don't want that, have a mushy engagement, plus there's been hubshell breaking issues. They're not as reliable as the circlejerk on main page makes them sound like. XTR literally couldn't even come out as they couldn't get the tech to actually work. Yet here you are talking down on something that functions very very well and can be serviced easily because it doesn't have some shitty gimmick. Nice. PS, Onyx and Sylence are not akin at all in mechanism.

@sherbet: I never dissed I9 at all..in fact I said they are super nice!! Maybe mine are an anomaly but I've had 0 issues with my Onyx hubs, riding hard for 2 years now. Definitely not "mushy engagement" like you describe. Also I don't consider weight when it comes to hubs. Hub weight is almost impossible to notice on the trail so why even consider it. Again never said 1 bad thing about I9, I've ridden on them and think they are great.

I was simply trying to see people's opinion on silent vs. hubs that buzz. If you don't like Onyx hubs, that's fine....but maybe you should give them a try on a nice set of carbon rims?

Have tried them, definitely not for me.

While I currently have i9 hubs and won't be upgrading I'm more interested in the 101 hubs and how much they will cost for the average rider to get better hubs.
  • 3 0
Wonder no more,go to the I9 website.

@nug12182: 101 rear RRP $290. Hope Pro 4 Rear RRP$250. Asumming off season/old stock discounts, I'd be interested in the 101.

I went to youtube to hear the hub sound and got swept up in an additional several I9 videos about all sorts of stuff. This new Hydra hub does sound sweet. I didn't see a SS specific though.

 Over priced hubs
  • 4 1
They have their 101 line of hubs now... priced about the same as DT350's!
  • 5 5
@teethandnails: average hubs for the price of the super reliable dt350, no thanks
  • 5 0
 @teethandnails: 350s are 18 poe though :/
  • 3 1
@teethandnails: I would do Hope instead. I can pick Hope and DT350 for under $175, and can upgrade the pawls in the DT's if needed.
  • 1 1
@longlongpelaman: You can change that and still have money for a Big Mac
  • 2 2
@thoe: at least with hope you can change the spacers to fit any bike. So if these jokers pull another fast one and realise a new hub standard your arse is covered.
  • 2 0
 @thenotoriousmic: Except you can't move a 142 hub to a 148 hub or a 157 hub.
