The Good, The Bad & The Foolhardy // Chasing Shadows in Chile's Andean Highlands
Three veteran mountain-bike adventurers—freerider Kenny Smith, photographer Margus Riga and journalist Brice Minnigh—head deep into the Chilean Andes in a multi-day search for singletrack, scree chutes and some elusive, black-powder bowls. Seasoned in the self-styled art of unsupported wilderness bikepacking, the longtime friends adopt a loose expedition plan that leaves plenty of room for spontaneity and shenanigans in a laughter-filled mission that is equal parts Spaghetti Western, The Three Amigos and a twisted Stephen King novel.
I totally get exploring unknown (for you) terrain, but why not contact a local and ask him for directios or even to guide the adventure? There is a really good guide called Pato Goycolea from Innermountain.cl that could’ve help you guys. In those two valleys you went there are some sick lines that are completely worth riding!! And really close to Piedra Numerada or Federacion (first day of the video). Cool to watch, the laughs with your friends is whats all about anyway!
I love watching Chile on Pinkbike, hope to see more of this!
Figuring it out on your own brings way more adventure. You do potentially miss stuff from a guide but blind exploration is priceless.
We invite you to see what we are doing here in Chike riding the highest peaks of south America by bike.
You can see some of our videos in the YouTube channel "Inner mountain Chile".
The highest mountain that is in the valley on the first minute of your video is called "El Plomo" (5.424mts) and it was sacred for the incas and also all that valley that you ride.
You can contact local guides for you other expeditions an know more about the places that you visit and of course ride bigmountain lines!.
Cheers and good video!
Crazy adventure guys!
this photo looks like a half dug face with the rider coming out of the eye.
