Wil White Injured In Hit & Run On Motorcycle in California

Jul 22, 2023
by Christie Fitzpatrick
Wil White shared an terrifying incident on his Instagram earlier today, leaving him seriously injured as a result of a hit and run. The post shows his status in hospital, where he is waiting surgery. We are relieved that he is resting, doing well and we wish him all the healing vibes for his recovery!

bigquotesI was leading a ride through a twisty section of road and came around the corner to a truck completely in my lane, driving towards me with no reaction of swerving or awareness from the driver. Just before head on impact I dove off the road into a driveway to try and get some braking done to scrub speed before I inevitably crashed into this boulder field.Wil White

These accidents really suck. Drivers should be forced to participate once in a while as a vulnerable traffic participant to know how it feels to put your safety into the hands of someone in a car or truck that might be texting, drunk, or a combination. Hope they catch the guy or woman that forced him of the road and ran. Hope he recovers quickly and fully!

Motorcyclists doing dumb things: they themselves get injured (serves them right!)
Drivers doing dumb things: other people get hurt (unfair!).
Heal up soon brotha!

Here you drive around a block and parallel park. The bar for getting a license is insanely low and traffic laws are barely enforced.

@bulletbassman: wait until you see what the requirements are here...

Unless he traded paint with the truck or there's a video, nothing will happen unfortunately. The police can't go out and arrest someone based only on the word of someone else. Damn, Wil happy you're still alive after that. So scary

@lehott: you definitely suck a big rooster !

@scott-townes: witness statements in vehicle accidents are legal here in Canada. Especially if there is more then one .

 @mxmtb: California isn't in Canada.

@scott-townes: thank god for that . How’s the governor treating you

@mxmtb: speaking californias gdp is almost double of all of Canada seems like they are doing just fine

@mxmtb: Let us know when the Cali gov. freezes bank accounts for donating to protestors or throws parents in prison for not allowing their child to undergo life-changing surgery and you may have a point.

@bulletbassman: well considering there is as many people in California as there are in Canada that makes sense .

 Heal up man !!

Drivers do not look for motorcyclists at all especially here in Vancouver it’s a real problem everywhere.

I hope they find this driver and punishment is handed out

Here's a brilliant explanation on why drivers don't see motorcyclists, from what's hands down the best motorcycling you tube channel.

TLDW; rather than recklessness, turns out human brain has some limitations.

@iiman: What a good video. I learned a fair bit there - thank you!
I don't ride road any more (having been hit by cars twice) and it's true - people just don't see you. I'll be trying to use some of that when I drive from now on - it explains some of those moments where stuff sneaks up on you. I'm surprised stuff like this doesn't get included on driving tests, etc. I'm am trained to a (UK) advanced driver standard and this is the first I've ever heard of it...

@iiman: Maybe drivers that are in the oncoming lane instead of theirs should look for oncoming vehicles?

Wil is such a good dude. Hate to see this, but happy to see the MTB community back up a legendary rider. Heal up Wil, miss you here in Southern Utah bro! - Pierce

Hit & run should be punished much harsher. Mandatory jail time for those low-life cowards!

Heal up well and fast, Wil.

Heal up quick! I had a driver run a stop sign in CA, tboned his Corolla. Shattered my left foot Lis Franc and broke right leg. People just don’t know how to drive anymore or pay attention (cell phones) SMH

 Tragic.

Hopefully: 1) they find the guy; and 2) the CA prosecutors actually take the case seriously. If recent history is any guide, however, 2 is not looking promising.

I'm sorry this is terrible. Roads with vehicles are soooooo sketchy. I would take any double black as a safer option to any road that has cars on it.

Hit and run drivers should be forced to do Rampage, on a gravel bike
