I know I already commented, but man. This shot is amazing. As a photographer myself I spend alot of time looking at amazing photos. So much that it's easy to become desensitized to even the best shots. But this shot.... I just keep coming back to it, and every time I'm half filled with jealous rage at the talent, and half stunned with awe. In the words of a photographer I really admire.."The human eye will spend an average of about 2.5 seconds on an image. A successful image is one that can make the viewer look longer than that." You definitely have a successful photo here. Nominated for POY.
Very kind words sir! Thanks a bunch. It was one of two good pans from say, 50 frames, so I was pretty lucky that everything fell into place on this one. Thanks again chap!
The beautiful part of this photo is, well, absolutely everything. I love photography and pull off the occasional good shot, but photos like this really put things into perspective as to what sort of talent there is out there. Exceptional photo!
I've looked at this shot over and over again since it hit the Dirt cover. Still can't get over how crisp the helmet and goggles are. Absolutely stunning Sam.
It annoys me when people say that photos look like paintings. But this, the colours and the contrast really do make it look like a painting. Killer shot!
Easily one of my favourite shots of the year since I saw it on the DIRT cover. It's nice to see urban camo making a comeback on Brendog's shorts as well! ; )
My dear, please dont attack my person because it attests about lack of arguments.
I see perfectly sharp head in comparsion with rest of the rider's body...
Of course, picture is amazing, but this is still more picture than photo what attests more about author's PS skills than photo skills IN THIS CASE.
Even Instagram photos go through 'post-production' these days, pal. Relax with all of the photoshop crap and ask yourself this: with or without, could you have done it better? No?
No, I don't because it's impossible with that shutter speed and focal length. If you can't do anything better, for example your car, does it mean you cant appraise it?
Oh, so now you're a photography appraiser? Give me a break, buddy! You're uselessly hating on both the effort and the time @samneedham put into this instead of appreciating it for what it is: a really amazing shot.
I know, I know, it's a whole hell of a lot easier than going out and trying it yourself or (maybe trying ANYTHING yourself), but since you and I know that A: MTB photo art appraisers don't actually exist and B: you weren't actually there when the shot was taken, how about you just back off? Also: stating that something is impossible is opening yourself up to a pretty sizeable internet junk punch. You'd be shocked at what kids are doing with cameras these days... Just FYI.

I did not attack your person, kiddo. I simply said that you did not take the photo, you are not a professional MTB photo appraiser, and that you were not present when the photo was taken. I made a suggestion that you should go stuff yourself instead of hammering away at other people's hard work, but that's all it was -- a suggestion.
PS: 'attests about' is grammatically incorrect. 'Attests to' would be proper use of the phrase. Just FYI. Again.
@mysticar You are demonstrating complete ignorance about the technique that goes into a shot like this, if you don't understand why the head is sharp and the rest of the body blurred, you should spend your time learning about photography rather than offering uneducated critique on other people's work.
