UCI never made skin suits mandatory doofus, the banned them the year after their horrific outbreak. The reason so many people wore them is because a few people started sliding into em and no one wanted to miss out on the millisecond advantages that they gave. Gotta do everything you can to win, even if you look like a dickhead!

Sorry, it wasn't a UCI rule to wear skinsuits. The athletes were required by their national teams to wear them. Either way, they were mandatory.

they weren't mandatory, the athletes wore them because they gave them a speed advantage, but they were banned because they offered little protection if you crashed. That and they looked horiffic.

It was UCI ruling to wear them in the World Champs, originally riders had to wear their countries jersey, then skinsuits were made mandatory, now they have been banned again.... luckily.
