Selected by IanHylands - I like the trail of dust behind Tracy in this shot, and the little blast where she's coming off the root. Body position looks good as well, and the composition is fairly balanced, light is decent, especially like the little bling of light on her helmet..
As much as its a great shot, i don't think the focus is spot on, and in my opinion i think there are many photos on pinkbike which are more pod worthy than this one. It seems as this sort of shot is pod a lot. I would like to see a vary day to day.
matthew10, you should take a look at the "more PODs" page that shows the past 24 PODs. I think you'll find that in the past 24 PODs this is only the 5th racer or race style shot, there have also been about 11 dirt jump shots, 4 trail riding shots, and 4 freeriding shots. So really that's a fair bit of variation, the only thing that there is a lot of is dirt jumping shots. Perhaps you've only looked at the site on the days that there were race shots and haven't seen all the rest?
@ matthew10... maybe u should email hylands ur favorite shot of the thousands or however many pics there are on pinkbike... and u want vary? y dont u and all ur friends do a nitro circus style shoot... ya kno the first season were all o the riders and drivers flew past each other? have every discipline of biking do that and see how it comes out... obviously on a smaller scale but i would be awesome if it came out good... thats what i was thinking of doing
The big perfectly exposed tree makes the shot not work (as well as it could) IMHO. If possible no flash hitting that tree would have made the shot focus more on the rider....I find the bark detail, and even the string very distracting.
I agree with @matthew10 I don't think the focus is quite right. For example the tree on the left is sharper than Tracy herself. But it does follow the rule of thirds pretty damn well.
It's still a pretty nice picture to look at props to bortels
For some reason the gnarly tree catches my eye more than the rider and the flash shining of the helmet is distracting plus i think the colors could loo better if they had a bit more contrast and they seem a bit over exposed especially on the rider.
Great shot - It highlights the rider with great attacking position, and the well exposed tree routes which are part of the course to overcome. This is improved with the aesthetic of bokeh!
I don't know why everyone always has to raise the point when a woman gets a POD; they can be extremely sick to, so why make a big fuss about it? Sick photo btw and a very good POD!
