aint anyone noticed that the frame has been cut look at the seat tube and how low it is there is meant to be a brace there like this one

iv called giant and tey have said it will not dammage the strenth atall, and im my opion i think it looks better as a slopey

I that if a bike looks absolutely matched and minted, it either means the rider has too much money or actually rides properly, every bike looks a but battered after a while, and I agree, it does look better as a slopestyle, and I doubt the frame is very weakened by it!! I wish I had £600!! :-) I'de be there!! :-)

Chopping that gusset out of the frame will massively weaken it. It effects a lot more than the seat tube. It shortens the effective length of the top tube for stress loading, it stiffens the seat tube / top tube joint both above & below the top tube & gives the frame a lot of it's lateral stiffness. I am a design engineer (Meng) and spend most days calculating stresses & failure loadings & that frame has been massively weakened. Giant would be stupid to even comment on such a mod and I very much doubt that they did.

i had a dj and i loveds it to bit but im short for cash atm and i need a 125 to bget to collage ect, so i put it up for cheap so i could get rid of it :/ i dont want to but :/ anyways if your offering ill take 1000 - 3 1
i agree with you that the rear sus aint the best but the pikes are amazing, in my opion the fame is aa beast, giant say its fine to use and there will be no dammage to the strenth of the frame, and the frame looks better, the hayes brake is brand new and is the best brake i have ever owned, i prefer is to my old hope mini, cranks are amazingly strong and pedals are okay, they are new and dod the job well for a cheap set of pedals and odd wheels.... who really gives a f*ck?

I really doubt you've called Giant and they've given it the okay.
I'd say it looks alright to use, But I really can't imagine a company giving the okay to a frame that's had about 10% of it chopped off.

If you dont mind me asking, what exactly did giant say about the hole in the top-tube? as i can't imagine that reducing the length of the seat tube would affect strength.

I'm not saying it's reduced the strength. I'm saying that I doubt giant approves of someone modifying their frame to this extent.

it looks pretty cool i must admit, but its a pretty bad idea, now that you dont have that part of seat tubing the rear wheel will hit off the saddle like you said you have already done and you said that pumping up the rear shock stopped it from happening, but id rather have a bike where i dont have to worry about the rear wheel hitting the saddle every time i take a hard hit, seems to me that its a bad idea.

The brace on the frame is usually about 60-70mm tall, making the seat only able to be lowered to 60-70mm above this, so by cutting the brace off and the seat tube down, you would be able to drop it lower, and if you would need to, raise it up, but to perhaps a little lower than the previous 60mm minimum height.

you could do that but you wont be able to lower the saddle with the seat tube gone enough to make the whole thing worth while.

i know, if you want the seat to be raised to a point in which you dont have to worry about the saddle hitting it (which personally i would) then the amount that you raise it will not be much lower than the amount it would have been if all of the seat tube was still there. So yea it looks bloody good but the frame was designed the way it was because thats when it works best. and i personally dont believe that giant has been phoned, maybe your local giant dealership but the person that has told you it woulld be okay is obviously not the person you are supposed to ask, if you asked the designer it would be a big no.

if your into dj's so much you should have bought a dj bike in the first place, and if your style is having your rear wheel hit your seat everytime you land hard or do a drop then fair enough to you

the fact that you have already 'buzzed' even though its just once, its enough times to make it a problem. If i had a rear mech that hit my spokes when i went into first gear, i would only need to hear it once then i would sort it straight away because its a problem i have on my bike, the same goes here, if you want to be running a mechanically sound bike then problems need to be fixed as soon as they are recognised or it just gets worse. but this is a man made problem that cant be changed now. So like i said i think it looks very cool but it has lowered the price you can get for the frame dramatically and if its not then the person who buys it is just stupid. this was your experiment, if you sell this and the frame snaps when someone rides it then its on you. so dont sell it because inevitably there will be an accident and it will be your fault.

The reign should be fine, that part doesn't add strength to the rest of the frame. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the tyre hitting the seat but then it may still miss depending on how the wheel moves as it goes through the travel.

Wheels: No more than £120
Forks: Old pikes, so no more than £180
Brake, cranks, seat & pedals, £100 at best
Frame: worthless. These frames in good condition are worth around £200-£250. A butchered one which is pointless for the following reasons..
- Unless you run the shock so hard that it doesn't function, the seat will hit the wheel at full compression.
- In that case, the seat needs to be kept higher up, the point of the brace before was to support the seat tube. Now it is no longer there it will be far weaker if it takes an impact.
- Apart from that, the frame is in pretty bad condition generally. Completely forgetting the bare, sanded down patch on the top tube. Maybe respray it?
Adding that up.. Your looking at £300 + the frame, as I said - even in good condition thats only worth around £250, so you would be looking at £550. The 2nd hand market is awful for sellers at the moment.
Things aren't worth more money because you like them, as your not the one buying it I'm afraid. Its like buying a house, if you tidy it up and paint it beige it sells 100x easier.

In what way does it make the frame far weaker under an impact? It was there to brace a part that is no longer on the frame. The other thing is yes realistically you won't get 700 for this as most people looking for a reign want one that hasn't been modified. I wouldn't do this to a frame but it's done now. I'd say if he really wants to sell it he'll have to drop the price drastically which is an unfortunate truth.

To stop the tire hitting the seat, you will have to wack the seat right up yes? That then creates a very big pivot on the seat tube/top tube joint. Which the original brace was there to support.

In that case, just raise the seat so that it is out of the way of the tire at full compression.. sorted

The point is, if you then raise the seat it creates a massive pivot on that small joint where it was designed to be braced.

This pivot is only an issue if the rear wheel hits the seat, so if it is raised beyond the point of full compression, then there is no problem.

you are sat nearly on the rear wheel. i have one like this but hardtail with the triagle seat tube thingy, and wow if you cut that im sure it would be fuuucked.
Im glad your not listening to most of these people mate as an engineer you have my up most respect for coming up with that idea and personally i think its a design they should have came up with in the first place. If i had the money i would have it straight off you without question
