@fartymarty: I could do less than 70mm, but at least 50mm. I'll look into them. I also have an Ergotech, it was well priced and also what was available in Norway at the time.

Went for 70mm and 12 degrees backsweep as well. Improved my riding, made my lower back pain disappear (when I ride) and gave a rest to my poor wrists. Only thing I'd change now is a better (more compliant/vibration damping) 70mm 12 degrees backsweep handlebar.

So I'm the only one who read Dylan Tremblay Breaks 5 Vertebrae ? I was really sad for a moment there.

He's also had hyperbaric chamber time on pure O2 which speeds up greatly bone growth. Essentially cuts in half bone fracture reduction, so paired with the surgery, he's only a few days away from full bone strength.

This piece comes less than a week after a quite serious and potentially devastating crash that left me with a concussion and possible vertebrae and nerve damage. The crash was so bad that I had to make sure I was not paralysed and that I could actually move without severing my spine. As a dad myself also, and with another one in the wait,this article does remind me to again reassess my needs versus my responsabilties. I had a cycling accident with a car some years ago that ended my professionnal career and I struggled to play with my daughter when she was borned and even today, that caused me more grief than losing my career, as I still struggle to teach her to ski because of chronic back pain. I also do alpine touring alone and have stayed away from avalanche terrain as much as possible because of my parental responsibilties. Anyhow, just to say that moderation is okay. I was lucky to litterally walk away from my crash a week ago and will hopefully start riding again during summer and will have to remind myself to focus and stay within my comfort zone. Funny thing though, my crash was in a very easy portion of a trail I had never done before and is more likely attributed to lack of focus than riding above my abilities. Also some food for thoughts I guess.
