“somewhere in between an overbuilt cross-country machine and a lightweight enduro steed you’ll find”… A trail bike :D
I do feel that bikes have plateaued with much of the geometry, most bikes are very good angles wise these days and the harder part is finding the right sizing to allow the rider to integrate perfectly.
We need to step away from full carbon frames and get fully back on board with aluminium, there’s clearly no weight saving these days, and if you’re building a bruiser DH bike a little heft is your friend.

@vinay: on smooth ground the smaller the wheel the greater the gain in acceleration from a ‘pump’, this is purely because of wheel mass and inertia, specifically the smaller the wheel the smaller the mass and thus easier to accelerate.
As soon as the ground is not smooth however it’s a trade off between roughness of ground and mass, where a larger diameter wheel will over come (ignore) an obstruction that a smaller wheel may get stalled on.
