My guess is, that the high RPM of the v-belt actually reduces friction of the cvt part a lot. But I'm not sure if the system as a whole will have an okay drag.

Of course the Linkglide cassettes are heavy. That's how they last that long. It's just more material. And you can't cnc them to shave every last gram otherwise they would cost a fortune.
