That "valid reason" is either a strange need to develop funky rear axle path, or marketing.
A well designed single pivot, even more so a high one, will give a suspension performance that will be at least good enough for anyone who didn't get their brains poisoned by marketing, or doesn't have some kind of weird taste as stated above.
Not to mention easier setup and maintenance.
Keep it simple, there's no need for 16 bearings to make a bike rip. Lief and Evan are proving it so far.
