2012 Profile Mountain Bike Hubs
Profile Racing showed us their new Elite hubs and while we haven't had a chance to ride on them yet they promise to be the same high quality product that they've produced for years, with a few small changes. They have all of the same great features as the previous hubs, but now come in more colors and more axle options for both the front and rear. We're really looking forward to testing these built up.

 Holy engagement batman
  • 2 0
They just look amazing and light!!!
  • 5 1
 204 points engagement is mad
  • 22 0
I've had a chance to play with them in whistler, and BOY THEY ARE LOUD!
  • 1 0
 omg those hubs look amazing!
  • 1 2
I should probably google, but this might help other people as well:
Why is the engagement point count such a random number? Kings engage every 5 degrees, but these engage every 1.76 degrees :\
  • 5 2
360 divides nicely in half to give 180, but if you want to have more engagements than 180 or less than 360 you'll find each engagement will fall somewhere between 1 and 2 degrees, hence you found 1.76

I hope they put up a video of the loudness. My Pro II's are about the limit I could handle but they're very useful to get pedestrians attention when cycling through London.
  • 2 0
i've heard them and they are louder than my pro 2, they sound more like superstar hubs. super high pitch.
  • 15 0
With 204 points of engagement it's going to sound like a friggin' minigun.
  • 2 0
surely it will just buzz abit like a chris king? my pro2 trials engages 48 times per spin and it buzzes at about 20-25mph, this has 4 times the engagements what the hell! i want one hahaha
  • 1 0
 but are they pro2 loud?
  • 1 0
Killer hubs, killer pricetag. The prices are listed on the profile website. I think the rear was like 450$ or something. Shame, they discontinued the cheaper hubs (300$) for these.
  • 2 0
I think I will be getting some of these for my DH bike just to make alot of noise
  • 1 0
i have a set of red ones for sale (2011) if anyone needs a set. www.pinkbike.com/buysell/902037
  • 2 0
sweet hubs, but I'll stick to i9's thanks
  • 1 0
yeah the ss hub does sounds like a cross between a normal loud bmx hub and a king. its the same buzzy noise but a little lower pitch and more aggressive than the king pawl sound
  • 2 0
Very cool. Not ditching my I9s anytime soon, but very cool nonetheless.
  • 3 2
 But will it blend?
  • 4 0
^^^Hopefully it will break your blender so you can't ask "will it blend" anymore
  • 2 0
 XD XD LOL ^^^^
  • 2 0
 That is the question.
  • 8 0
The six pawls are in 3 pairs. each pair offset slightly. Each pair engages into the 68 teeth in the ring in turn. the 3 pairs engaging into 68 teeth at differant times gives the 204 engagements.
  • 6 3
I don't get the fuzz about Profile. yes, their stuff looks amazing. yes, it is quality. but no, it is not lighter than other brands! and no, the quality does not justify the price tag...
  • 3 2
 agreed ^
  • 1 0
i dunno .204 points of engagement.hmmmm. the engagement points must be very very tiny and even if there is six pawls im not sure they`le take alot of heavy abuse , but having said that im also pretty sure profile know exactly what they are doing eh.. my hadley has 72 points and sounds like a screaming cat so i cant wait to hear those bad boys set loose!!!..
  • 2 0
Six pawls and three theeth on each pawl.
It makes 18 contact points.
Even if teeth on the hub body are tiny, the strain resulting from the torque is divided by 18.
Not so bad no ?
  • 1 0
all three teeth on each pawl wont be engaged at the same time so still only 6 pawls engaged at once.
  • 1 0
Dougie please explain why it wont engage at the same time
  • 1 0
preparing myself to be shot down here, and just realised my last comment was majorly wrong. quote from above:

'The six pawls are in 3 pairs. each pair offset slightly.
Each pair engages into the 68 teeth in the ring in turn.
the 3 pairs engaging into 68 teeth at differant times gives the 204 engagements.'

the pawls are offset so one set of pawls will engage after the other. ie only one set of pawls is engaged during a pedal stroke
  • 1 0
They sound like a mad swarm of bee's come directly straight at you. your neighbours will hate you. i promise.
  • 2 0
dougies I think you might want to back it up with little evidence. For example, I would like five links that support your statement and you may want to start with addressing this question. What would be the hole point of having the extra 12 teeth. If they don't engage at the same time
  • 2 0
first off, i cba to go find links. you have a hub with 68 teeth and 6 pawls. suppose the pawls were not offset, the 6 would engage at the same time and give 68 engagements in one full turn of the freehub. if you offset the pawls slightly so there's 2 of the six engaging at a time, each of those pairs will engage 68 times in one full turn of the freehub, 3 pairs = 68x3 = 204 engagement points.

dont bother looking at or taking into account my first reply, it was wrong. im leaving with that, no idea where these extra 12 teeth came from
  • 1 1
"suppose the pawls were not offset" This shows you have no clue what your talking about. Well the reason I asked you to verify your information. If your going to school me, you better have references that support you statement. Because I like looking at information for the engineers that designed that component. Then form a person that thoroughly studied all the internet forums that claims such and such.

Are you just bashing on this product, because you are pissed off. That you spent way too much money for your chris kings. That have lower points of engagement
  • 1 2
Do either one of you guys even own Profile elites? probably not...
  • 2 0
I've got a set of these on my BlkMrkt and they are so loud! They definitely turn heads, by sound alone - my friends call them the "angry bees". The engagement is just wild. Very highly recommended!
  • 1 1
they are the loudest hub i have ever heard.
  • 3 2
The laser etched logo on their front hub has been etched on upside down (see first photo for most obvious). Not the biggest mistake in the world but it does remind you that profile haven't a 100% clean QC record. Definitely no King or Indy9 quality. But at least they're not another damn Hope.
  • 2 1
I don't think anyone has ever had a 100% clean QC record.
  • 3 0
Not 100% was putting it lightly to not be a complete hater. Companies can clean up their act, but Profile still have a way to go before I'd be buying a hub like this that requires tolerances to actually be kept.
  • 2 3
hahaha you absolute douche-canoe, it's the right way! think of it when it's built, the logo faces the fron of the bike!
  • 4 0
It's the wrong way, disk mount on the left hand side, the logo should be readable from the riders perspective. And even still, it's been etched the opposite way to the rear hub in the same picture. Go figure...
  • 1 2
wrong, both the logos are readable from the front of the bike.
  • 3 0
Profile Elite hubs for BMX are about USD 445 for a set, front and rear, with cog
  • 1 0
Great looking, but pricey. Elite rear hub = $450 and front = $207. Curious if they are that much better than their existing MTB hubs? $268 rear and $143? profileracing.com/estore/category.php?perPage=0&category=8
  • 2 2
i own the hubs for bmx and can honestly say they are far from chris king. they have the anodize colors which are nice but they ripped of industry nines design and made it cheaper and eventual develop a bit of drag do to poor machining on the spacing inside. also the tend to skip ever so often cause of the way the springs are inside. Love mine but would not buy them a secod time.
  • 3 3
If they're anything like the new profile BMX hubs, these are gonna be crazy expensive. I believe the rear hub of the bmx version ran for $650 USD !!!!! Overall, excellent quality and will last a lifetime.
  • 2 0
The current MTB Elite Hubs are about $650 US a set from the Profile website.
  • 1 0
$650 for front and rear, while pricy, isn't that unreasonable. Profile has always made good product.
  • 1 0
I have the SS Elite on my Dobermann, with Ti axle, Driver, and bolts, and it was 840$ retail... Nicest hub I've ever come across though. Super loud and crisp. Profile's quality is undeniable... Wish the 15mm front was available though when I bought the rear. Frown
  • 1 0
Profile never fails to impress! It's been too long since they've revamped their MTB product line. These look quite promising, and pretty light too!
  • 2 0
I just got profile hubs for my dh bike and they are absolutely awesome!!
  • 3 1
my gold HOPE PRO 2 hubs are pretty fucking sweet!!
  • 1 0
They are Scrummy looking indeed, we wait with baited breath for Price and weight...
  • 1 0
scrummy sounds like a bad word Frown
  • 3 1
and look out for what you might catch with baited breath! :-)
  • 2 0
Scummy dude ? Legit ? Surely you haven't been able to use an Elite hub yet.

Beyond the best hubs on the market.
  • 2 0
He meant it as in Scrumcious, Delicious. But yeah, Scrummy sounds like a bad word. I think so anyways, language barriers, gotta love em.
  • 1 0
 I hate language barriers...
  • 2 0
Scrummy, scrummier scrummiest scrumptious. There you go everyone. The English language has many similar sounding words, some with very different meanings. It still gets me some days, i can understand how strange some of our words can sound to Pink bike readers world wide. Hope that is sorted???.
  • 1 0
The chainline on their old mtb single speed hubs sucked. I hope they fixed that with these.
  • 1 0
I liked the look of the old ones better, but you cant go wrong with 204 engagement points!!
  • 1 0
Drool i want more ti, and 204 POE! i hope they're gonna be as light as they sound
