by Julian Coffey
After being locked up for 2 days and a minor derailment brought on by Cam Zink throwing down the gauntlet at Brandon Semenuk the Red Bull Joyride course was born. With just 6 weeks to go the course construction is well under way and the anticipation is building as the world's best freeride mountain bike athletes prepare to descend on Whistler for the 2011 Kokanee Crankworx festival.

About Kokanee Crankworx
The eighth annual Kokanee Crankworx is presented by Whistler Blackcomb and the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Kokanee Crankworx is the biggest annual event held in Whistler and is also the largest freeride mountain bike festival in the world. Each year the best amateur and professional freeride, downhill and slopestyle mountain bike athletes gather for a ten-day, non-stop barrage of competition and celebration. Whistler has the world’s most diverse offering of mountain biking terrain, including 150 miles of single-track trails, 5,000 vertical feet of lift-accessed downhill runs in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, jump parks and 20+ miles of paved Valley Trail.

LOOKS SO F*CKING AWESOME!!!! Also sweet that Whistler seems to be taking a little inspiration from Highland w/ the Shred Shed concept. Big Win for them, all the sicker for the rest of us!

I find that there are lots/too many plain kickers/lips. Last year there was only 1 that you could hit on the whole course, with many satellites and other creative things like the mustache jump and catcher's mitt. I just think that if you, say replaced some of the wooden lips or actually had DIRT JUMPS on the "dirt jump" line, it would add detail and another degree of difficulty to the track. That said, the rest of the course including the 3 different line options and the house, are mind-blowingly awesome!
