when the snow falls I start grooming my local trail network with the snowdog, and have a blast all winter on the Foes Mutz. shoulder seasons mean driving more north or south chasing dirt or snow.

I grew up riding BMX bikes in the woods without helmets back in the early 80s and I lived to tell stories of crazy stunts. These days we know a lot better and have gear that is comfortable to wear, they will be fine.

Winter gloves, really? being from New Hampshire I wouldn't run any of these in winter. My winter goto is any type of lobster claw glove [45 north or Dakine] with a thin silk glove liner. If it gets below 5F it's pogie time.

below freezing, snow covered trails that have frozen just right [or have the perfect groom] to make white pavement...an instant flow trail. Having fresh snow on the trees is an added bonus.

Pinkbike Poll: Do You Use Your Climb Switch?
I live in the northeast, where long gravel road climbs don't exist [if they do, they are called dirt roads, and I am on my gravel bike] so the lock out is pointless. If I am on a long climb, it's typically full of granite where being locked out makes no sense. So yup my lockout gets zero use.
