The Pinkbike Podcast: Episode 16 - Who's Your Mountain Biking Hero?
Hans Rey. Had a chance to meet him five years ago, even rode toghether that same day. After the ride, he took his time to show me some old school bikes he had in his camper (he was on his way to the UK for an exhibition) Reminiscing about his video's that I pretty much grew up on, up to the point where he almost missed his ferry from Calais to Dover. Genuine guy, takes his time for a long time fan. We all know the saying about meeting your childhood heroes, but sometimes they can be everything you expect them to be and even exceed expectations.

Bontrager Release BITS Integrated Stem Tool System
@Klainmeister: I believe some have. They're more like XC lycra ones, but I've seen 'em from Fox.

Video: Wyn Masters Speaks to Yoann Barelli on Sponsorship and Salaries in Pro MTB
@enduroNZ: Yup, he's a clever business man with a keen nose for marketing. Not a huge fan of the whole commercialization thing he's got going on there, but it's understandeble. Pro riders only have a limited window of time to make a name for themselves and create some financial buffer.

True. But even top level riders can make a huge difference in their own marketing and exposure and creating their own value. For example, take Fabio Wibmer and Danny MacAskill. At the peak of the lockdown a few months ago, Danny was posting daily on Instagram about his antics on some soggy pallets in Duncan Shaw's driveway. Next level stuff none the less. Those video's had an average of around and about 50.000 views, not bad... However, Fabio Wibmer released "Home Office" around that same period. People who didn't even ride were sending me that video and posting it up on their FB page. Result: That video has now around 10 million views.

Bike Check: Nina Hoffmann's Santa Cruz V10 - iXS Cup Test Session
@bananowy: There's bound to be some disadvantage in not being a full time racer compared to the other racers. But let's not forget that she's a late bloomer in the sport, she wasn't spoon-fed at the age of 4 like some of her competitors. Makes me like her even more.

Because her results from previous season are erratic at best. I love her personality and found a new appreciation for her after hearing her podcast, but the results are not there just yet. Emphasizing on the "yet"

YT Releases Shred Spec Aluminium Capra & Decoy
I concur. There is still a difference between direct sales brands and conventional brands, but it's going from a huge gap to a minor gap. Sure, brands like Trek, Specialized or Cannondale are still a big step up in prices, but value brands like Giant and Cube are closing the gap. Comparing MSRP's is only half of the story. If you have a good relation with your LBS, they give a discount between 5% - 10% or they give you some freebies like accessories, maybe a free first tune up. Add all of those things up and a YT or Canyon isn't the deal of lifetime anymore, now it's just a deal.
