Sam Pilgrim Signs with Haibike
Surprised you haven't been neg-propped to oblivion, you actually have a valid argument. Pretty awesome torque comparison btw. For where I live (Portland, OR) most of the trails around here are straight up, straight down. If you're climbing a road (often asphalt) for several miles, wouldn't you just turn the bike off at the top and hop on the trail? That's probably the only way I'd personally ride it. Then you're just essentially riding an old-school downhill bike (weight wise) which could be an awesome training tool- more runs, heavier bike- I'd imagine you'd hop on a light race bike after manhandling a 50lber for maybe two or three more laps than you'd normally do and feel like you were flying. The only impact that I could see from using e-bikes in that sense would be just having to do more maintenance on the trails from having them being ridden more- which to be fair, could be a very valid argument against them if they really catch on. At any rate hate to admit it myself but I've actually been thinking about getting one for this application. It's just so stigmatized right now that I don't think I could really go through with it. I'd want to ride the shit out of one but I would never, ever want to be seen riding one in this day and age- guess I'm not brave enough to be 'that fucking guy' Shuttles and chairlifts are good but e-bikes are bad? All I'm saying is if you're driving your bike up a road to ride down a hill, you're a fuckhead if you're hating on e-bikes.

Thinking about selling my nearly brand new Trance after a bit of a bikepacking/ park riding tour through NZ in February. Flying out of Auckland on March 8th********, so you'd need to pick it up at least a few days before! Bags not included. I LOVE this bike, but it might just be easiest for me to not have to worry about shipping it back to the states and such, and this amazing colorway isn't available in NZ, so you'd be getting something especially fresh/ rare :) https://www.giant-bicycles.com/nz/trance-2 Currently armored up with protective clear stickers (note some ripples in picture) as well as fork and downtube protectors. I will take super good care of this bike throughout the duration of the trip, but also know that it will be transported, taken on bikepacking trips and ridden at several bike parks, so it'll likely earn a few scratches between now and early March! Pretty much bone-stock aside from a few mods: -Dropper lever made from a gutted SRAM XX front shifter -Shimano Zee brakes -Chainguide -WTB Silverado saddle -Fully deep custom high tech mudguards I made from a two-pocket folder -Still haven't decided on my pedals for the trip just yet Let me know if you're interested, it'd be cool to not have to worry about boxing a bike back up at the end of my trip
