Bike Check: Nino Schurter's 60th Anniversary Edition Scott Spark - Val di Sole World Cup 2018

Nino Schurter needs no introduction. The multi-time World Champion and winner of more races than we can count is consistently the man to beat on the XC track, week in and week out. It's never surprising to see custom painted bikes pop up for top athletes like Schurter and some are more eye catching than others. This 60th anniversary edition Scott Spark is a retro throwback with an old-school font and color scheme. Of course, it's not the Spark's 60th anniversary - that number refers to Scott Sports, who got their start making ski poles back in 1958.

Pinkbike's Matthew DeLorme snagged a few photos of Nino's bike as he was cruising through the pits at Val di Sole this weekend. There wasn't a scale handy, but the weight of this beauty is likely in the 20-21 pound range (9.1 - 9.5 kg).

The stickers have been removed to keep the sponsors happy, but if you were wondering, it's a Fox Nude shock that handles the bike's 100mm of rear travel.

What? Nino is 60 and still ride so strong? That’s even more impressive.

Every rider is using the test to epitest ratio to compete.

Riding bikes keeps you look young and fresh.

I don't usually go in for the retro paint jobs, but the thoroughness of this one - all the period-correct sponsor logos, no bare carbon to be seen - just makes me grin. It's like a bike from an alternate history, where we invented long ago everything we take for granted now. What a piece of art!

Probably still the best mainstream XC bike.

Yep. Did 67 kms today on mine. Fast as an XC bike, versatile as a trail bike. Love the TwinLoc lever.

I had the original Scott Pro Racing back in late eighties/early nineties(?) with this colour scheme. Brings back memories!

I know someone with some old Scott ski poles that colour. Love that colour.

That bike is beautiful! I love Scott Sparks they are such a versatile bike with the twin loc

If by versatile you mean only good for climbing then yes

Fork/frame decals + paint are so far beyond insanely good. Easily one of the best looking bikes of any kind I've seen in a hot sec

I wonder why he isn't running the Syncros Silverton SL one-piece carbon wheels...

Team sponsorship. DT Swiss are still a sponsor

This is a different bike. The one he is racing comes with Sram Eagle wireless shifting

That mint colour with the gold looks really good !!!!

 Rear shock is not RS?..
  • 2 0
It's because of the TwinLoc that was developed with Fox: bar mounted remote gives you 100 mm, 70 mm, locked out. I love it.

 @iamamodel: nothing similar from RS?
  • 2 1
@iamamodel: Didn't they develop it with DT Swiss? I seem to remember it coming with the DT Swiss Nude2 rear shock.

@ahadzivasilev: Good point. TwinLoc was 'developed' before Scott used Fox. Bad word choice from me. The words from Scott are "Our proprietary FOX Nude shock..." which means no RS option.

@ahadzivasilev: They started with DT Swiss on prev generation Sparks but then switched over to Fox and have been with them since. I have one of those orig DT Swiss shocks in my garage.

Nice one! Nino go for it!

At least he's not using that bright green bar/stem, that thing was fugly.
  • 3 5
I guess Schurter, after all the races lost because of e trap - including swiss championship last week - is refusing to run it
