@mikekazimer: You're right, upon reflection, i was about to reply with "but thats what reviews are for, determining how a bike rides". I then realised i was posting this comment on a bike review, where the author has effectively said the bike is between the xc and trail categories. Its not PB creating extra labels, its pb reviewing bikes and finding easy language to differentiate similar bikes. I withdraw my outrage.

@mikekazimer: Everyone has had enough of the extra made-up labels for bikes that vary 10mm in geometry. It's not about what the bike is, it's about what it does. XC bike - Designed for racing XC Trail Bike - designed for pedalling days up and down Enduro Bike - designed for Enduro Racing, Downhill tailored but can still pedal Downhill Bike - Designed for Downhill Racing, wouldn't want to pedal There are definitely edge cases that don't fit directly in one category like bikepacking bikes and freeride bikes but they are exactly that, edge cases. This is a trail bike, plain and simple. No XC Trail needed, just Trail. So is your spur, so is your Epic Evo.

@likeittacky: Terrible argument with no real logic. If you think there is only one winner then why are 2nd and 3rd on the podium at all? They didn't win so we shouldn't acknowledge them. "Moto/supercross honors top three like it should be", why should it be that? Because historically we acknowledged Gold, silver and bronze? Well historically MTB has acknowledged top 5 for the last 30 years so by that argument it should stay top 5. These racers aren't being paid near enough so let them get a photo on the podium so they can use it as bargaining with sponsors.
