Even if there are costs (assuming your statement about efficiency is actually true for the Lal Katana vs traditional FS bike) that doesn't prove that there are not significant improvements.

Are you insinuating that the chain angles on current wide-ratio 1x drivetrains on AM/EN bikes couldn't/shouldn't be improved upon? They're called "marginal" gains for a reason, yes, but they add up, as I'm sure you're aware.
