I spent four months learning German in preparation for my move to Switzerland. Then I got here and discovered that I might as well have saved my time. People can understand me, but I really, truly, absolutely cannot understand a word of Swiss German.
@jubbylinseed - make a point of visiting englishforum.ch if you're looking for anglospeakers. I know there are also some guys that have grouped up to go riding together.
As a gravity orientated rider
This still really appeals! Looks quite challenging for XCO riders on hardtails. Like to push yourself hard up the hills then to try and bomb the descents.
I can see why people ride this.
I've got a philosophical issue with track grooming. Mountain biking to me is riding a bike on whatever nature gives you. If nature gives you drops, rooty step downs, and narrow hairpin turns between trees then that's what you ride. Like the original rampage where people hucked insane drops because nature put them there. Rider and equipment adapted to nature! NOT Nature gets groomed to be friendly to rider and whatever is the equipment of the day. When they said "narrow" on the video, I nearly crapped a brick! The trail looked 6 feet wide! The whole lot of them might as well just be roadies!
I get your point, but if you appreciate the level of riding we get to witness today you must admit it would not be the same without some groomed trails. E.g. None of the most appreciated World Cup downhill tracks (some I have ridden myself) has simply fallen into place. There is always a local crew or establishment looking after the best trails. That goes for the trails used on the enduro circuits as well... My opinion is any trail builder is a good guy or girl. Let's keep digging and make the world a more fun and rideable place!
XCO crowds are the biggest they've ever been. They get more people in the stadium alone at Nove Mesto than any three DH WCs. There's more to life than edits featuring shitty music, flat brimmed hats and bros wearing skinny jeans "shredding".
Lenzerheide is a rocking spot!
I thought it sounded cool.
