Review: Shimano XT 8220 Brakes - More Consistency, Same Value
@ResidentNarwhal: Hmm thanks for the tips. I have some spare 203mm Galfer Shark rotors that could work. This is going on an Ibis Ripley, so probably a bit overkill but it would be nice to solve the problem cheaply :) I'll try the free stroke screw trick you mentioned next time I bleed the brakes.

Specialized Is Trying to Make E-Bike Overlanding a Thing
How does an e-bike make sense for bikepacking? How do you keep the battery charged at the end of a ride?

I did a full bleed of the system after installing and attempting several lever bleeds in an attempt to fix the deadband. The full bleed definitely helped, but also doing the "piston massage" procedure to remove air bubbles that were probably trapped in the caliper end. I did a bit of a hack to overfill the master cylinder by slightly pulling on the lever without a bleed block installed, topping up with oil, and then screwing on the lever bleed port screw. This helped a bit with the lever feel, but they still have too much deadstroke for my liking. I still can't figure out what the free stroke screw actually does. If anyone has suggestions (or wants to tell me I've done it wrong) I am all ears.

The deadstroke thing is driving me nuts with the new XTR brakes. I've tried a bunch of different bleeding techniques to reduce it. I think I preferred the on/off feeling of old Shimano brakes to these new ones.

The Ibis Oso eMTB Gets a Makeover - One Frame, Three Travel Options
@mooseindahouse: that is what I said, that other brands will make more powerful motors to compete with DJI. I think this is a problem--I would rather see motors get lighter and more efficient while maintaining a max power output that is more reasonable on a human scale. This would keep the disparity between motorized and non-motorized riders down. Also, lightweight e-bikes are great; they ride like a real bike.

The Ibis Oso eMTB Gets a Makeover - One Frame, Three Travel Options
@j-p-i: I'm just guessing, but considering the Santa Cruz Vala CC builds with 150 mm rear/160 mm front, 600 Wh battery and the same drive system are about 49 lbs (~22 kg) I'd guess this bike is pretty similar. Ibis doesn't have the weights posted to their website yet.
