To be honest the pricings of Transition bikes in my mind are not too overpriced, when you consider the following things.

1. The time taken to design, produce a prototype and refine a downhill bike to be production ready is very long.

2. The labour force to design the bikes is highly skilled and so they need good payment

3. Each license for a CAD package can be incredibly expensive. I was talking to a friend who works in engineering and he said that his company just spent £18,000 on 4 licenses of Solidworks (£18,000 is around 26,500 US and about 27,000 canadian.)

About manufacturing being done in the far east. Many very well made bikes and components are made in the far east. For example, Rock Shox suspension is manufactured in Taiwan along with Giant bikes. You don't hear people complaining about the quality of those brands products. Far eastern manufacuterers often have acccess to more equipment and can use the vast amounts of experience they have attained over the years. It obviously lets companies take advantage of the lower minimum wage for workers in far eastern countries aswell.

I agree that some brands are ridiculously overpriced but because mountain biking is a minority sport, high prices must be charged if brands are going to survive

Also, by the time that TR450 Frames get over here to Scotland they cost the equivalent of 2800 USD.....

Basically, Transition bikes, and other companies for that matter, are not "Greedy" or ripping people off, they are just trying to stay in business. Is that too much to ask?

noo thats not 2 much 2 ask for dude..i understand all that u said n i agree w u...the bikes are designed here in america..tested in america(as well as other countrys true) and 2 make the 1st run of prototypes yes it does cost some nice money...and yes the tooling cost money...but once u've done all that...and the deal is struck for a certain # of bikes...after that 1st run...the prices should go down a lil..all the works been done..all the testings been done..people are getting paid..if they hadent been paid already...everythings been squared away..finalized.. DONE...now i rather sell a bunch of frames..bikes at a reasonable price..that way MORE people would b able 2 buy em ride em..than 2 set em at such a high price that only a few pieces would sell a year in any part of the world...every 1 thinks that if the price is high...then it MUST b a quality frame...dudes its just a bike...2 wheels 2 brakes n a seat...some of these bikes are almost rivaling a motorcycle in price...are u kidding me??? and dont even get me started on carbon fiber....super charged plastic??? com on...
  • 1 0
Do you actually know how carbon fibre is made?
  • 1 0
yes id do...ive seen the videos but all that tech..at the end if you cut the frame in half after you've destroyed it riding..dude it just looks like plastic..i'll be it a super tech plastic...i like metal bikes be it alumm...or steel..or titanium carbon fiber looks sexy as hell...deff lite as f**k but still i dont trust it for hard core riding...it might be good as a component...but as a frame..im still not sold on it bro

I'm writing from Australia. I hear what you're saying about the price of the Taiwan made Transition. Let's do a little comparison. What's the price in the US for an equivalent Yeti, or Intense DH frame with shock? (of course the shock has to be the same or equivalent) Both Yeti & Intense are made in the USA. If the price is anywhere near the same as the Transition then I think you might be right. Very right in fact! (BTW I think Santa Cruz are now made in Taiwan - that's why I'm talking Yeti & Intense).
  • 2 0
yes sir..santa cruz are now being made in taiwan...i have a bullit that was made in america...they were made here until just a while ago...and as far as price compatibility yes..transition wants 2500.usd for a tr 450 w fox shox...in the same way you could buy an intense ss w the same fox shox for the same money...in fact a pro shop in in queens ny..ordered an intense ss in orange with the fox shox for a guy in size small...and the guy never came to pick it up...the shop owner offered it to me for 1800.s....so what would you rather pay 2500.s for a taiwanese frame or a hand built made in america intense??? dude i dont know about you but id DEFF go for the bad ass race proven intense....
  • 1 0
Don't forget too that these companies have a work force they must pay for...health benefits, workmans comp, insurance, warehousing, a building, utilities, duties on all components imported from abroad and when the frames ships to the shop your final price already includes the cost of shipping from Transition to you. Transition's costs are way more than $100 for those frames, you are out of your mind if you believe the BS that essar is stating.
  • 1 0
dude do u honestly think thoes 5 or 6 emplyees that they have..all get health benefits??comp?? insurance?? last i heard u need at least 25 emplyees b 4 u HAVE 2 provide health insurance....the building ok maybe..but look up...i said a per frame material does not cost more than 100.s...especially if u buy in bulk..but if u say is b.s. ok...i guess im wrong n ur right?? lol..but u obviously would rather pay 2500.s 4 that 3 bucks an hour 2 weld frame..by all means holms go 4 it...i giv u 3 thumbs up...intense..foes..sant cruz ALL DAY 4 me...
  • 1 0
Yes we all have health insurance essar good insurance in fact. Thanks for your support

If you can buy an Intense or Yeti in the USA for the same price as a Transition then you are paying too much for the Transition. There is no question that frames made in Taiwan can be excellent quality but there is no way you should pay the same money for one as a frame made by Intense, Yeti, Turner etc. in the USA.

i like the transition bikes...but has any 1 gone 2 there web site n seen the outrageous prices there asking 4 there frames??? r u kidding me?? 2.400.00s for a tr 450 frame n shock!!!! what r these boys smoking?? thoes frames r made in taiwan for crying out loud...there prob made for about 100.s a frame if that...n soon as they import them here 2 the good ol u.s.a. they want that price 4 em?? damn u can get better made frames from u.s.a. for that money...i dig there stuff dont get me wrong...i use 2 ride flat land w kyle young wayyyy back in the day he's a cool dude..but come on...why do we bike junkies have 2 b raped financially 4 the sport we love??? damn...is stuff really that diff 2 make??is material cost that expensive?? is shipping em back here from wherever that expensive?? hell no man.... its just like everything else in society thats wrong...GREED...

Check the price of your shoes there hommie Wink I think you would find the mark up from manufactured cost to retail is a WAY higher factor.

Oh and do some research on the actual comparitive costs and quality of TWN and USA manufacturing. Companies aren't producing in Taiwan because it is cheaper, they are producting there because the product is better.
  • 1 0
better???than what???better than american??? i think u need 2 check ur shoe my friend....theres NO WAY companies are manufacturing there bikes in taiwan cuz there better.....there cost less 2 make..point blank...
  • 3 2
 tr 450= 2400.s w shock???
blindside= 1766.s w shock
bottle rocket= 1509.s w shock
double= 1499.s w shock....for what?? lil chineese people welding frames in a factory for like 3.s an hour...
OUTRAGEOUS

Yes I agree. I've got nothing against a Taiwan made frame but they should retail for way less than a frame made in the USA where the company workers are paid much more.
  • 2 0
agreed. Transition started out as a US brand and kept their price low in order to promote their product now by saying that they wanted everyone to enjoy riding, but now since they've got their fame and became greedy.

people from Taiwan aren't Chinese. People from China are Chinese (even if they were originally from China). Stay in school, now.
  • 1 0
stay in school....that d must stand 4 d**k lol...taiwan is the republic of china numb nutz..lol...yeeze stay in school??? lol,,lol glad i didnt go 2 ur school homie...lol

haha dude just chill. I didn't mean any disrespect, and i know it is (thats why i said the whole thing in parenthesis). I just have Taiwanese friends and family who are very into the revolution of a free taiwan. Sorry to offend you. My "stay in school" comment was inappropriate, and im sorry. But next time you try to call someone stupid, use proper grammar and spelling so you actually have a point your making. Smile

im not mad..wait let me get my grammar stuff right...lol..sometimes i think my lap tops my cell and i tend to shorten or abrev words...lol..but dude seriously im not angry at anyone..i was just simply stating what i thought of in regards to pricing of said company...my bad if i annoyed or disrespected anyone..it wasnt my intension...
